You must be on about Murphys? Kennedy is closed a while now!

You could try asking on eircooled.com - while its dedicated to aircooled motors it has a significant Cork membership - someone'll know something about that company

Or just PM JustinOval on this site...

Murphys are far more reputable, any dealings I had with Kennedys didn't end well.

I have only had one encounter with the Cork engine centre, I was looking for a crank, flywheel and clutch assembly balanced but they said they couldn't do it..

    Sorry, not much help.

McCarthy Engine reconditioning in Castleisland. One of the best around. A lot of motorsport guys use him as well.

They're obviously best avoided if they're not willing to do a relatively simple job like that....

They did call me back to tell me the didn't have the equipment to do it... I thought that balancing would be a basic engine rebuild process, maybe I'm wrong..

Apparently you do need a dedicated machine so that you drill precisely the right spots in the crank but like you, I'd have thought that it'd be part of a competent outfit's equipment.

I've been in your situation before and in my experience, word of mouth recommendation is the only way to go - I've had all sorts of assurances of good work which ended up being redone elsewhere.

If it was me, I'd be going for Mahle pistons (assuming a rebore) and an original Volvo C or D cam rather than a Kent replacement - keeping the car relatively standard makes setup and subsequent maintenance much easier - picking carb needles, for instance, can be done from the original specs. All OE stuff is available from CVI Automotive or VP Autoparts for decent enough money and the quality is right.

Don't let anyone gas flow the head - it just doesn't work well on the B18/B20 heads no matter what claims are made.

Anyway, hope it all works out - good luck with the work :)

Dropped car off with Cork Engine Centre this morning,
after chatting with them, Im confident that I will be happy with the results, they certainly know their engines.

First week in March will tell a lot.

Good luck - with any luck you'll find the car transformed just in time for the longer days

meant to do this a few weeks ago,
    anyhow,
cork engine centre turned out to be very good, nice bunch of people down there, friendly and very knowledge, im happy with the work that was done, and the time scale that was agreed to, was when the work was done.
So all in all, i would recommnend them.
