does your DVD player have a coaxial RF-out connector? If you have one of those sockets you can use a coaxial cable to connect to the TV and then tune in the DVD player.

It's pretty unlikely that it will have a RF-out, especially if it's a portable player.

Instead you are more likely to have a composite out (yellow RCA-type connector) for the video signal, with the audio being connected via a mini-jack (headphone sized plug) to stereo RCA type connectors (one white and one red).

I reckon that if your portable is quite old it might not have either a scart or composite connector into which you can hook up your dvd player.

I'd check that first - round the back of the TV you should either have a scart socket or composite input connectors (yellow video socket with red and white audio sockets). if you have either then you'll just need the appropriate cable. If you don't have either of these types of input connectors then you won't be able to tune it in to the TV.

    Hope this helps.
