Im looking at Vodafone and 02 right now and thinking of paying the higher tariff for 6 months to get the phone for free and then bringing it back down after that.

    Vodafone €49.99 a month + 150 mins + 150 texts + 2GB
    02 €44.82 + 175 mins + 100 Text + 1GB

    Vodafone €64.99 + 300 mins + 300 texts + 2GB
    02 €64.74 + 350 mins + 150 texts + 1GB

Both 18 Month Contracts. Both phones are €199 for lower tariff and free on the higher tariff.

As I do not understand how the usage of the GB allowance works I am stumped.

    Anybody in the know?

I guess it depends on your useage.

I'm with VF, and the 65pm tarriff. With that one you get free anytime VF to VF calls and texts (so it costs me nothing to contact my wife, for exampl). O2 probably have something similar.

The 2GB download was a winner for me, as I had huge bills in the past that were purely down to internet use. I haven't counted it up properly, but my guess is that even the 1GB that O2 offer would be more than enough for most. Quick example: most of the games I've downloaded from the app store are about 10MB each. So I could get 200 of them in a month from VF. A 3minute song is going to be about 1.5MB, so thats over 1300 songs per month. It's a decent allowance, although I'd say if you were streaming video you'd go through it a lot quicker.

VF won it for me on the bigger downloads really.

Do you have a Vodafone iPhone or something similar?

    Hey!
ust my 2 cents, but Id go with the lower vodafone tarriff, you'll end up paying 70euro more for the phone (in monthly charges) plus 2GB's on an Iphone should be more than enough to get one threw a month.

    Hi,

The way I justified the higher tarriff:

It's €15 more per month. You can change to the lower tarrif after 6 months. So, paying €15 more for 6 months adds up to €90.

If you go straight onto the lower tarriff, the phone costs €200. But with the higher one it's free. So if you go on the higher one and change after 6 months, it's still €110 cheaper than going straight to the cheaper one.

It was a no brainer for me.

It meant I could stay with VF too, and that suited me. If you are on a carrier other than VF or O2, then you have a better choice than I did, really. Plus they'll probably give you some bonus for porting to them (I think VF are offering double minutes and texts for 6 months or so).

I had a quick chat with a vodafone customer service agent and it appears that because I also have Vodafone & Home Broadband and Phone Line I will get 10% off my home service along with the iPhone.

I think I see which way I need to go now.

However I now have to wait for the third party company that Vodafone use to call me so I can actually order it. I have registered with them a few times but they never called even though the girl on the phone said they would contact you within 10 working days.

She said she would send them an e-mail to ask them to contact me.

If I am given 300(VF)/150(02) texts I doubt I will need more as a free offer.

I probably wont even use entire minutes even on the lower tarriff so extra's mean little to me.
