Undecided about getting a forerunner or a 705. Has anyone used the 405 for cycling, if so any issues. Will be using it for tri's. Thanks

I just started a similar thread on the athletics page. I was looking at the 310xt. But not sure!

I've a 405 (not the CX) use it for running and for the bike (triathlete)

Nice piece of kit, never had issues with it dropping sat's or anything, have also swam with it under the wettie.

However, when it rains you better not want to use the touch bezel, or the buttons, or if you are sweating allot on it.

I have a 310xt and I find it great... how did I live before it etc.. :D
Allows you to setup different fields to display depending on cycling, running or other(swimming).

umm just had a look there seems impressive damn it more decisions to make!! I see there is 2 options for straps for the HR strap, elastic and standard. Has anyone got the elastic version

Yes, I have the elastic(soft) strap. I had a Sigma HRM before with the old style standard strap, no comparrison. I can now come in from a run and not be rushing to take the strap off, much more comfortable.

I have a 405cx with the cadence sensor and heart monitor. I do quite a lot of running so it was a good compromise for me. I haven't tried the cadence sensor yet (mix of bad weather and general laziness) but I have been out on the bike with the heart monitor. I like it a lot although I'm yet to get the best out of it.
I think it is an excellent choice if you run as well as cycle.

If you just want to know where you went and how long it took on a bike,
a friend uses one of these and they are cheap on ebay.

I have a 405 which I love and is great for training but I wouldn't use it for a triathlon - like was said before if it gets wet at all with the bezel unlocked it goes ballistic and has to be reset. The GPS takes a minute or two to locate itself and then turns itself off if you're standing around for too long so it's easy to miss the start of a race and takes too long to get going again once you've actually started.
For a race it's better to have a cheap as chips heart rate monitor with stopwatch and a bike computer on the bike itself so you're not checking your wrist regularly which is awkward in the aero position.
However for training in both running and cycling, it's brilliant.

FWIW, the new Garmin Edge 500 can be wrist mounted (see detailed review here, mentioned previously by Tau).

I'm not too impressed by the move away from TCX files though.
