Singing Bowls are cool, takes a bit of getting used to but they are cool. You might also find in places like the farmers markets or in Oxfams or second hand shops a digridoo (dont know if I have spelt it correctly). You could get something quirky like a mini amp. Xmusic do the Marshall Mini Amps, Music Maker do them too, We do Orange and Mini Marshalls (I think Music Maker do Orange ones aswell). They are little 3 Watt or 1 Watt amps. Battery operated and good fun.

    Both under €50

There's a treble clef piece on a silver chain made by newbridge...i know plenty of musicians who have received them as gifts and loved them....and then a set of spoons...straight out of the cutlery drawer, which would qualify as a percussion instrument

Have a look in McNeils music shop on Caple Street. Above McNeills pub, great traditional instruments shop.

Maybe a Low Whistle or set of Bones instead of a Bodhran.
