I don't think any cinema does butter anymore. I haven't seen butter on popcorn in years.

    It's not butter.
    It's butter flavoured oil.

As a former cinema employee, I wont eat popcorn unless its been made fresh, if they take it out of the glass cases on the counter I wont take it, only out of the machine, any popcorn that isnt used at the end of the night is bagged up, then reheated the next day, we used to keep it in a binbag under the stairs only to stick it into the glass counter the enxt day and the lights would reheat it again, yuck, also the pick and mix has had at least 3 employess hands in it at any one stage, we used to grab handfuls and eat them while restocking the pick n mix counters, ah the things you learn in these jobs :D

Movies just aren't the same without popcorn. I have a friend who's such a nazi about keeping quiet during a film that she believes popcorn should be banned. That's a bit extreme.

The Dublin cinema I worked in used butter flavoured salt. Luminous yellow it was.

Most of the cinemas that offered butter to pour on your popcorn apparently used margarine.

Yeah i dont how or why it is, but once a cinema is on the scene for a few years its popcorn supply goes to ****.

The only popcorn i enjoy these days is dundrum, so so tastey and fresh :)

I was only thinkin the other night in daybreakers tha liffey valley popcorn has gone to **** and will most likely never make a comeback and that i should stop wasting my money on it :)

The popcorn in swords if sucking muck.

Its always broken little pieces, and just horrid.

Only buy it cause it makes sense with a large drink.

And buying a medium drink and popcorn, or medium popcorn and large drink, is more expensive then the large popcorn and drink.

But its awfully woeful, I think I'll just bring two bottle sof a soft drink in with me and some munchies next time i go cinema.

I hear that! Never totally got used to the salted stuff... in the UK I always used to have sweet popcorn (sugar)... but was never able to find it here...

    ...until...

I went to cineworld in Dublin the other day and saw a bag on the counter which had "SWEET" written on it... one of the medium sized purple bags, just sitting there empty... when quizzed, I was told they didn't have any left. Not that they didn't have any... that they didn't have any left. Which makes me think they might actually have it.

Can anyone confirm or deny? Is this a mean trick? I will be going back to investigate, as it's clearly a matter of urgency that we establish a supply of tasty SWEET popcorn in Ireland.

They can use the salted stuff on the roads... :pac:

I expect Cineworld Dublin don't stock sweet popcorn.

I think all UCI's have butter for popcorn, Blanchardstown do anyways. I think they start charging extra recently for it.

They haven't done butter in 5 years... As for the dryness, meh. Depends on who makes it. When I worked there, I did a good mix.

Agreed. In Vue, they'd make a few bags near the end, so that there'd be at least 6 bags for the morning - no-one comes in the morning, so no use putting the popcorn machine on until 14:00 midweek.

Saying that, I eat the cheese popcorn that you get in the blue bags in Boots. MMMMMMmmmmmm :D Still thinking of bringing in melted butter in a thermos flask for the fun, one of these days.

There's something about "sweet" popcorn that seems like...blasphemy. Popcorn is supposed to have salt and/or butter on it. I can never get a drink when I'm going to the cinema because I'll then need to make a run to the loo at some point during the movie and I hate missing any part of a movie. I usually bring gum in for when I've finished my popcorn.

Don't bring in gum, bring in a man's sized bladder!

Buttered popcorn, with Maltezers is the business. Every handful can lead to a new suprise of chocolate, salty, buttered goodness!
