Hey I’m interested in doing a course involving computers I’m looking at the computer applications course in dcu or the computer science course in dit. Would anybody doing the computer applications be able to give me some info on the course? Especially surrounding the different specialisms information systems and software engineering in 2nd year .I’ve found some info on the 1st year so I’m looking for some info on 2 year onwards if anybody could help me out. Also if u were to leave after 3 years would you get an ordinary degree or is it a case of doing the 4 years and getting the degree or leave before hand and get nothing .I have some experience in C but none in java which I see in done in 1st year.

Well, I'm in 4th year at the moment, and I don't like the course.

Personally(i.e. not speaking for everyone), I do not recommend doing this course.

If you have some C experience, you should be able to pick up Java fairly quickly.

They've chopped and changed the course as I've gone through the years, and there is a new system in place at the moment.

Basically, the Information Systems stream is now a BSc in Enterprise Computing, and the Software Engineering stream is now the BSc in Computer Applications. They've done away with a common first year, then specialising in second year. They've split them into two seperate degrees.

Have a look here at the two degrees: DCU School of Computing website

I must warn you, there is a high drop out rate, and I would look at other colleges as well. :)

Also, if you drop out after three years, you get nothing. You could use the credits earned to transfer to another university I suppose. *shrug*

IT Tallaght have that progressive education type thing... like diploma, then on to degree.

    Good luck.

    Hauk
