SanDisk Sansa Clip or similar

So I settled down to looking for a little MP3 player for running in the last week and decided on the SanDisk Sansa Clip, not realising that Xtravision had been practically giving it away before Christmas and Harvey Norman followed suit, so now it can't be gotten anywhere that I know of in a bricks and mortar store. Anyone know any other stockists ?

Failing that, does anyone know of anything similar ? Don't want the new shuffle as the controls are built into the headphones as I use my own good ones. I suppose music quality doesn't have to be excellent as I don't have the volume very high anyway when out on the road.

Is there a reason you don't wont buy online?

the clip is excellent, especially for jogging and for it's size the sound is fantastic.

Ebay tends to have them very cheap.

Just thought I might as well buy locally if I can, I spent a fair amount online before Christmas, and the recent deals seem to be cheaper than anywhere online.

I wouldn't recommend anything similar to the clip+, only the clip+ itself, it's a fantastic little machine which nothing similar matches.

I saw sansa products in dunnes before so they might have it, if your local music shops sell pmp's you might find it there, otherwise I can only think of the multinationals like argos/dixons/currys.

just to clairfy that the clip + is a newer version of the original clip. has a slightly better design, more scratchproof, faster scrolling through lists and most significantly has a micro sd expansion slot which means that you can use cheap micro sd memory to expand the capacity.

the clip + 8gb is only 40 sterling on amazon.co.uk

Cheers, I'll take a stroll around a few stores tomorrow when the weather settles to see if I can pick one up, otherwise Amazon it is.

Glasso, do you have a link for that, I've been looking at Amazon.co.uk and it's a little confusing, the cheapest I've seen it £44.99 for the plus, http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDMX18R-008GK-E57-Sansa-Clip-Player/dp/B002NX0ME6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263305287&sr=1-1

but the original clip is £49.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-Sansa-Player-Radio-Silver/dp/B001FB5FO4/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263305287&sr=1-12

Is this because the second link is just a fancy silver one ? I do prefer the look of that but will go for the newer version.

It's my own fault for taking an extended Christmas break, otherwise I would have spotted the bargain alerts link when it was originally posted, ah well.

It was £39.99 a few days ago - the prices seems to change a fair bit. Actually it will work out a little more as amazon will change the vat rate to the Irish rate when you go to checkout which will add a little more to the price (vat rate 21% vs UK 15%). Still well worth it at that price - best mp3 player I've owned.

Get the newer black version - it's better. Also - the silver version doesn't stay silver for long as the paint will fade and scratch easily - I owned that version also.

Just a side note, the UK VAT rate is now 17.5%. So you'll pay a tiny little bit more. Definitely watch your conversion rate, it might work out better to pay in sterling if you're going with amazon as their auto converter usually won't offer the market rate.

Well I popped into Hardly Normals on the way home yesterday as I was passing anyway, they had the original 8gb black version in stock for €39 so I went ahead and got it. Not too bothered about the newer model as it's just for running, whereas if I was using it on a daily basis I would have held off for the clip+.

    Thanks for the help.

How are you getting on with your new toy?

Ordered the Sansa Clip plus/+ 2GB, €37 delivered from Pixmania via Ebay. With the plus you can add additional capacity with a micro SD card.:)

Only have had 1 run with it so far and it was good, much better than having my regular iPod bouncing around in my pocket. Sound is surprisingly good actually, get a good sound using my Sennheiser in ear headphones.

However the only issue I have is that out of the several hundred albums I've brought into itunes for my iPod, only a handful are actually in mp3 format so I'll need to go through them all and convert them.

Well it arrived and its tiny.

I do love it, its a very logical device.

If it was bigger I'd prefer that as the eyes are beginning to fade:(

Well worth the money and a far cry from the Zen Micro I had a while ago.

I like the independent volume control plus the HOME button.

    Thumbs up to San Disk:)

I've just ordered an 8gb clip+ today, with a 16gb microSD card. Seems like a good investment, as 32gb microSD cards should be appearing soon. Hopefully a version of rockbox is released for the clip+.

It fits in my earphone pouch/case/container, very snuggly too - almost as if the case was designed with the clip+ in mind  :pac:

That won't be a problem, so long as it's a clip+ you are getting and not the 1st generation clip

Landed today. It is tiny! My one gripe so far is that when you select play all after picking an artist, the tracks are listed by album rather than alphabetically by each individual track. I'd gotten used to that from a rockboxed ipod. Apart from that it all seems great! Sounds brilliant on my sennheiser cx300IIs as well.

That was my only gripe as my eyesight isn't getting better.

I really like it especially the way you can increase the capacity,HOME button and independent volume control.

    Otherwise its a great buy.:)

I'm finding the screen alright. Small writing, but very very sharp.
