What are people opinions on the Astra GTC (3door) '05-'09 model?
    Reliable?
    Look good?
A womans car? (I usually see women driving them?!)

I think they look great and they always catch my attention. I'm kinda thinking of one as my next car. I'm male and in my 30's btw!;)

I had a short spin in one two years ago. It was only a few months old at the time.

It was a 1.4 petrol, and I thought it was slow (slower than my Almera). ALso, it was uninvolving to drive (like my Almera). It was fairly comfortable.

My lasting impression is a nicer looking Almera.

1.4 isn't the best. Sounds like an a hairdryer too. There's a 1.3 diesel that's really good but you need to use the gears to avoid lag. Suprising amount of go in that one. Came close to buying a 1.6 Petrol a few years back. I'd aim for one of those if you can find one and don't cover huge milegae.

Had a 08' 1.6 "sport" as a rental car for a couple of weeks last year.

The engine is dissapointingly lethargic and seems strained at higher speeds (120kph). Pressing the "sport" button just made it more uncomfortable than it already was & tightened the steering slightly.

    Not worth it imo

If you can find a 1.9 CDTi (150bhp) then that would be the one to go for, excellent Fiat multi-jet diesel engine but they are as rare as hen's teeth here though. Better chance of finding one in the North or across the Irish sea however they wear the Vauxhall badge there.

Go for the OPC and its about as far from a "woman's car" as you could possibly be and can be got for about €14-15k now

I previously had the 1.3 CDTi that EPM refers to. It has 90bhp and was surprisingly nimble for such a tiny diesel in a relatively heavy car and it would easily return 55-60mpg on the motorway

i looked at bringing in this car but the VRt is like 3500 compared to 1500-2000 for a 1.3 or 1.7 diesel. Pity...its a savage car to drive.
