Accomodation near UCC

    Hi All,

I have just accepted a PhD position in UCC and intend to start in mid February. I will be based in the eastern campus, just off the North Mall/Sundays Well Road. Can anyone recommend an area to look for some accomodation and maybe areas I should stay clear of. Somewhere with handy parking within walking distance of the eastern campus and the gym would be ideal. What kind of rents should I expect? Also, does anyone have any experience with Dennehy's Cross Postgraduate Accomodation, would you recommend?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    thehairyone

Wuz in the same boat myself and visited Dennehys Cross bout a two months ago. Massive building site. Apartment I was shown was very bleak.
Can't imagine how anyone would be able to study there and been told by different sources that the builders will be onsite for some considerable time. Depends what you're seeking really. If you search this board there are some recent useful accommodation threads.

Thanks for your reply Max 001.

Have been looking into the Sundays Well area. I'd be interested to know peoples opinions of the place.

    Hi

I currently live in Dennehys Cross and would highly recommend it. Its easily the nicest apartment I've had in 5 years of college - its actually unbelievable, doesn't feel like student accommodation at all. I also like the fact you know no-one has stayed in the apartments before so everything is new.

You have a Tesco Express right below as well, and its about a 10 minute walk to the main UCC campus (I'm not sure which is the eastern campus).

Also the builders are finished up now, or you certainly don't hear them if they aren't. It was bad at the start of the year alright though, constant noise of drills but since I'm doing a PhD myself I was rarely there from 9-6.

The fact that they don't have UCC broadband is one of the annoying things so you have to get one from O2, Meteor or Vodafone. As O2 has a student rate of 10pm I think thats the best. Rent is also expensive but I felt as it was an important year it was worth it - think it works out at 115pw if your staying for the summer as well.

If you want to know anymore about the place just ask me.
