A friend has a van, Insured by Quinn Direct Third Party Fire and Theft commerical insurance,

Was parked up for a few days with the very bad weather, not safe to drive around our area cos the roads where like ice skating rinks!!

He went to start the van 2 days ago and it was totally dead..

Had a look at it and it was totally frozen. The engine is completey fecked due to the frost.

Its pretty much beyond economical repair..

Would this damage be covered under his insurance?

Very hard to say, diesel freezes at -10 and some nights in the east and midlands hit this temperature.

Cold weather procedures may not have been followed.....you read the manual I take it.

It may be excluded as an act of God anyway.

Finally Quinn are dodgy to deal with on legitimate no question claims, they will be scumbags on this even if seems to be covered according to the policy.

As dave stated third party F&T is for fire, theft and the people you hit in an accident.

This one is best suited to the Motors forum. Moved accordingly.

Not covered I'd say.. plus insurer would say he failed to maintain the vehicle (i.e. add enough antifreeze).

It's seen as negligence and insurance companies won't normally cover it.

Not a chance they will pay out because:

    1. Its quinn Direct.
    2. TPFT means TPFT and that only. Surely you can read the policy?

BTW, how do you know its dead? The cold is very good a wrecking Batteries.
