    Hi,

I'm considering applying for the masters in security/forensics. Has anyone here undertaken this course, and would they recommend it?

    Hi,

I did this course last year. It's very good, however very demanding. I pretty much had no social life as I was that busy.
The Cryptography, Secure Programming and Computer forensic modules were most interesting.

The Cryptography module is taught by Mike Scott - genius. While the forensic computing is taught by Charlie daly, and youll get some great guest lecturers like Any Harbison - Grant Thornton.

However, I know that graduates from this course are finding it tough searching for a job - just because of the whole recession. But, I relocated to the states 2 weeks ago, and because the security sector here is huge, I've already attended 5 interviews in comparison to 0 within four months back in ireland.
But I'm sure if you guys decide to do it, the job market will be different when your finished.

Anyway, any q's on the course Ill answer them. But I do defo recommend it.

    Hi snowyeoghan,

The above is very helpful thanks. Did you do the course full time or part time? I'm looking at doing it part time, probably a massive commitment. Also, how heavy was the Maths in the course, from the prospectus, if seems as if every subject revolves around it.

    Thanks

I did the course on a full time basis. I can't really comment on how much of a commitment it is part-time. But, from observing the part-timers, I thought they had it pretty easy. instead of having four assignments due at once, they would only have two. However, all of them also worked full, which I'm sure put them under a bit of pressure.

There wasn't much maths at all!! The only maths we came across was in Number Theory, which was fairly though. But you can avoid most of it if you choose to go down the cryptography path, as cryptography and number theory are now combined into one exam.

Thanks for that. I've been accepted anyway, so I'll find out for myself in September.

Best of luck with it lads.

Also, check out this site www.devtarget.org. They were previous students and have a lot of assignments done on their site under the 'papers' and 'tools and downloads' tabs.
    I found them really helpful.
