    hi there,

writing wills is quite simple but they are VERY technical. Litterly one wrong word or a misplaced word can change the entire thrust of the will so unless you are absolutely sure of what it is you want to do, go speak to a solicitor who will know exactly how to do it.

Depending on what the testator/testatrix (person leaving the will) wishes to leave, it may be very straight forward or it may be complicated by family issues. You're really much better off speaking to a solicitor. Wills are not expensive, couple of hundred euro for total peace of mind.

If you're adamant you want to do it yourself, the only way to go is either buy the law society manuals, 2 volumes 62euro each or buy one of the land law books (wylie etc).

In any event its cheaper to go to a solicitor and your wishes can be directed accordingly

It's cheaper and less hassle, in the long run, to see a solicitor

Writing a will i not simple and i can guarantee you that there are numerous things that you may not even have thought of such as, who will execute the will?, what happens to the residue of your estate?, what if the people who benefit under the will pre decease you? Or die at the same time? Children? Non-marital children you've kept secret? who can witness the will? What legally has to be left to spouse?children? Married or living together? Whose names are on the title of your property? What if you marry after making the will? Foreign property? Do you have capacity to make a will? Have you been exact and detailed enough...The gold jewellery or the silver? The car you have now or the one when you die? Which bank account-savings or current? Which charity number? The list goes on and on...

Any solicitor worth their salt will never underestimate the complexities of a will and detail is paramount in order for the will to be valid.

Prices vary between solicitors so i suggest ringing around and asking the secretaries what the standard cost of a will is. Obviously, i advise going to a solicitor.

Note also, that there are websites that give a step by step process to writing a will and these have proven to be inaccurate.
