Second hand records

I'm selling off a load of old dance - house and minimal techno - vinyl. Talking about 100 records here. Anyone know somewhere in town that will take that many records? I don't really want to head into town with them all only to have to bring them back home!

Also where is the least rip off place? I know you can't get much for old records but it's pretty **** when you sell off some of your precious memories for about 50c a pop!!

    Thanks for the help.

If you want to make any reasonable amount of money then try selling them straight to a dj, a shop will give you as little as possible, it may be even optimistic to expect 50c each.
Before I moved to Canada I sold my collection, I had been making it smaller and smaller for quite awhile, a couple of months before I moved I managed to shift about 1000 records, all hip hop(about 500) went to one person and managed to sell about another 400 house to another person the last 100 went in bits and pieces.
There are plenty of djs out there looking to build their collections, strike a deal.

Thanks for the response. Of course that involves cataloging them. Which I will probably never get round to doing.

Still, it might be worth sticking up a generic post on gumtree or here (dunno if there a selling forum here).....

Step 1 - go to Discogs, open an account, go through each of your records for sale in turn and link it to your account. you can export your discogs collection to a spreadsheet once you're done and attach it to a post on a forum. Well handy.

Step 2 - While doing so, make a note of the general condition your tunes are in according to the usual record traders scale - be brutally honest. NM / VG+ / VG / G / F / P etc etc. Also make a note of the general discogs asking price for each tune.

Step 3 - put them up on up Discogs for a euro less than the average asking price. if that means chargng less than two euro then for ****'s sake don't bother and just bring them in to Beatfinder or Spindizzy.

Also spam every "for sale" section of every irish music forum (emireland, cluas, thumped, bodytonic, irishdrumandbass) with a complete list of your tunes.

    Great suggestion. Discogs rules.

I am going to be selling a load as well, never got round to catalogueing them on Discogs.

Have 2500+ and tbh I am fed up having to shift them around all the time when I move etc and want to get rid of what I don't deem as a complete "TUNE!!". :D

My collection spans a lot, from house, trance, techno, minimal, even hardcore among everything else from early 80s onwards.

Would love to see the gems you have in there Jay!

Catalog and grade the lot on Discogs first. At least then you'll know what you have, what you want to keep, identify duplicates etc. Most releases are now in Discogs so it doesn't take as long as you might expect. Having two people do it may help - one calling out the CAT numbers, the other on the PC.

Then I'd sort alphabetically (all the A's together etc) so you can find them easier should you need to.

You might discover that some gems are worth quite a lot. These would be worth selling seperatly to collectors on Discogs as you will fetch the most.

But, I'd sell a few low value items first and be a "good seller" so you can get a positive rating before you start selling the high value items.

Getting the time to do it would be the obstacle and like I said there's many many many I would not sell :)
