Yes you can set up a facebook fan page. You need a facebook account first to set it up.

What? Facebook is free, only thing you will ever pay for is advertising on a fan page IF you want to.

Just be sure not to set up a an individual. Set it up as a business Page. Theres no limitations on friends numbers. With an individual profile you have a limit (think its 1000 but not sure) Its only a problem if you get to having that many people signed up but if you do you may have problems getting them all to migrate to a new page once you reach the limit.

Try to avoid paying for anything to do with social networks. Start-ups should not fall into that trap. Your not Microsoft. As was mentioned, you can always mitigate to other account types when you need to. I may be wrong, but I am crazy about reducing cash burn. Might have a psychological problem.

I tweekd my FB ad this week and got over 200 hits to my site in a day! And from that had a few sales.I have paid about 20 quid so far and am keeping an eye on my bid rate! it DOES work for some businesses.

    Thats interesting Chubbcakes

What was your CPC? i got about 60 clicks in about a week, never got the volume you did though.

I might try it again soon with a few tweaks to see how it goes.

Ah read that wrong, i was getting fans, you were getting site hits, what model did you use?

I set up a Fan Page for my new business a few days ago, invited a few friends to get it going and within a day I had 33 fans, a few emails about what I do and one order, happy days :) A Fan Page is a good (and free) way of getting out there among your peers, and especially if it's something that benefits from people seeing photos.

What, in general, did you change? -- 200 extra hits in a single day, seems like quite the increase, and mine is overdue for a refresh...

I find the facebook adds great... I got some great business out of my add..

If you join this page http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=24249628048 you get $100 of free advertising. I did it n it I got 572 hits from my add, from that I got 10 new customers... I stopped the add about 2 weeks ago(was running for a month) but am going to start it back up at the end of the month...
