Where in Ireland are you based? Dont want to recommend somewhere on your doorstep. The Knightsbridge Hotel in Trim , Meath is lovely. Travel a bit with work and is one of my fav places to stay. Friendly staff

I just love goin to westport but it seems to rain every time I'm there but still loads to do and see with Croagh Patrick only out the road, Matt Molloy's pub is a must for a hot one by the open fire and trad music.

also styaed in White's of Wexford, amazing hotel, if you look under super valu get aways you can get some great deals

The Lyrath in Kilkenny is very nice indeed and has some good value offers.

Lyrath is ok but it got a stinking review in the Indo a few weeks back. Westport is a good spot. I like the Westport Plaza hotel but it would be a bit of a trek from Waterford. Killashee near Naas might be a more realistic journey and is very good and an awful lot cheaper than it used to be.

The Christopher Wren Hotel in Windsor. On the river Thames, right under the castle and easy access by taxi to the Fat Duck. You could also try the Cliveden Hotel in Burnham, or the Oakley Court between Windsor and Maidenhead. Man United regularly stay there when they are playing at Wembley.

What was your budget again :-))

Kinsale is more of a summer place I would say.

I picked a few expensive hotels there, but if you fancy the UK, Windsor is a nice place for a couple to spend a weekend.

Rathmullen House in Donegal is a superb place, but a bloody long way from where you are.

Kinsale, a grand place even this time of year, book a meal at fishy fishy cafe, nice old streets, pubs, shops and boats

I have just come back and i have to say the restaurant is defo one of the best hotel restaurants in the country and it's improving all the time,i wouldn't be surprised if they picked up some major award soon,it's that good,i think it's worth the trek(we drove from Wicklow)

I know it's an obvious one but Kerry,if you want something out of the town a little bit i would suggest The Lake Hotel,i gave them the usual 'It's our anniversary',worked a treat for the upgrade to the lake suite with jacuzzi etc,(very cheap offers during the week)
    Also restaurant is ver good

Don't know what age you are but for the ultimate relaxing break Rathsallagh House in Kildare is magic for food ,walks and nice soft beds for bouncing on (if you're into that sort of thing)

Go to Carton House in Maynooth....it is amazing! My boyf brought me away there last April and I loved it so much he brought me away there again for New Year's. It is a beautiful relaxing place...once you drive up to the hotel it's as if you're miles away from anywhere....lovely!!!!

Both myself and my sister have had bad experience's of Carton house. I have a voucher for a night there I got as compensation and I dont know whether I'll bother using it. Fabulous location and setting but letdown majorly by inexperienced staff

try using booking.com instead of going through hotel websites. I've often gone with friends on 2 night away trips to Germany, Belgium, Holland. Would highly recommend Frankfurt in Germany. We just got first flight out on Saturday, last flight bank on Monday. Hotel was amazing, although the name escapes me... If you're interested I could make myself remember!

It may be a bit far from you but how about Carlingford in Louth.

Was there for first time with other half in Oct and thought it was really nice place.Lovely mountain walks and 10mins from Newry. Also lovely drive in Cooley mountains.

Theres a few nice restaurants plus a couple of cosy pubs.We had a great time.

Would highly recommend "The Park House Hotel" in Galway!

Heard York is lovely if you fancied a quick nip to England!

Waterford Castle is lovely with amazing food but might be too close to home for you.
Galway's always a great spot for a weekend away and lots of great hotels to choose from.
I've been to the Radisson in Cavan a couple of times and it's lovely, gorgeous spa and leisure centre and nice grounds to go for a walk. it's not great for food but there's a really nice restaurant called the Old Post Inn that's not too far away.

San Diego, it's so beautiful there. Lots of great shopping and dining. Horton Plaza has great shops, Sea Port Village is really fun and the Gas Lamp quarter has tons of restaurants and bars. Coronado Island is really fun too and all your have to do is take a bridge to get there.

You also might want to consider Laguna or Huntington Beach... there is a really nice Hyatt right by the beach with a bridge that drops you off in the sand.

I agree the Lake Hotel in Kilarney is beautiful, very peaceful-nice big open fires, jacuzzi outside, lovely spa and deer wandering around the garden! All set on a lake, we had a beautiful room overlooking the lake, it was really nice.

The Knightsbrook is lovely, my brother got married there. The only thing is theres very little to do in Trim. The spa is beautiful there also.

The Lyrath is lovely also but The Lake Hotel beats it hands down. The Lyrath pool area is small and doesnt have the same cosy feel as the Lake Hotel.
