    May be a stupid question, but can you claim tax back for mileage travelled?

    50c/km here.

    Public Service ones are as follows:
    Up to 6437km
    <1200cc - 39.12c
    1201->1500cc - 46.25c
    >1501cc - 59.07c

    Over 6437km
    <1200cc - 21.12c
    1201->1500cc - 23.62c
    >1501cc - 28.46c

    The public service ones very definitely depend on grade - I saw rates of 1.27 a mile for some grades.

    There are grade based expense rates in the Civil Service for things like subsistence and overnight allowances but to my knowledge mileage is all from the same standard set of rates. There is a 'reduced' mileage rate but it only applies in certain circumstances, for example where someone is using provided vehicle and only has to fuel and drive it. The €1.27/mile rate was the old rate for the first 4000 miles of travel in a year with a car car of >1500cc engine size. That was the standard 'top' rate but has been dropped quite a bit recently. The rates listed above by testicle look correct.

    That's the old rates. Changed in 2008.

    We actually PAID tax as BIK. But as with many of our benefits our travel expenses have been cut even though it was a done deal with management....seems they do what they like!:mad:

    You're all doin better than I did. In my last job (public sector) they would only pay me 19c per km and refused to pay the "normal" travel rates (listed above).

    When ya then consider I was out on the road most of the week, it ended up costing me a fortune :(
