I have a trip to New York later this month. I need to exchange several 1,000 euro in dollar. Where is the best rate?

The best way appears to be online transfer (like an account with xe.com).

This requires use of an American account so if you do not have a friend's account you can use then I am not sure.

Actually xe.com delivers currency so you could look into that as I think they use actual market rates (around 10% better than tourist rates in banks)
