Toshiba recommendation and Win7 Upgrade Question

    Hello,

I am thinking of buying a Toshiba laptop to replace my old Dell desktop. I want it for email, browsing, word and some gaming with non-integrated video. I found this:

    http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/Toshiba_Satellite_Pro_P300-28L_Laptop_PSPCDE-03R01XEN/version.asp?PID=

The only downside being it's Windows Vista Business. My question is -- is this upgradeable to Windows 7, if so, what cost and how difficult is it to upgrade.

    Thanks in advance.

    Why Toshiba?

That's terrible specs for that price.

or if you want a 17"

Better specs, processor aside, and much cheaper.

i agree, bad price for that machine, cant see how they're charging that price, should be more like 400 euro. You'll pick something up better for much cheaper, but stay away from acer.

    What's wrong with acer?

    They eat little babies..........

Seriously, not much, improved a lot over the past few years.
Issues happen when you require support on the machine apparently, not the best support out there.
Have had a few of them recently, no issues but as I said, it appears the issues occur when you need support.

As an aside, I have yet to not have issues getting support on ANY brand of laptop, you'll hear horror stories about them all on occasion.

Yurg. I ordered the first one I linked to from Komplett... I had a look at a similar one in PC World and the build quality seemed pretty good. I've had Toshibas and Dells before and had nothing but problems with them. Spent a lot on repairs.

Hope I'm not in for more of the same!

Was thinking of a Toshiba because they get a good recommendation from friends and online. Not a brand desperado though, I'm more interested in aftercare, a good processor and reasonable video as I want it for casual gaming too. Not pushed about HDD as I have external 500GB.

I'm aware Dell have lots of issues (from experience). Not that familiar with Acer and aftersales tbh.

I am looking for a 17" as it's replacing a desktop so weight isnt too much of an issue. There was cashback on the Toshiba which brings the price down which is why I chose that one not far from the Acer price.

Anyone tell me if it's worth waiting a bit? Can hold off a month or so. Thought I might get a good deal in January but nothing too exciting...
