    Hey,
Drive a Nissan Almera (02), the car has been stored in a shed for the past month and half..much to my surprise the engine started and car is ticking over nicely.

however when i put it into gear there is no movement, forward or reverse. it appears to be going into gear as it makes an attempt to move but then just stops. is there a possibility the brakes might be frozen or is that even possible? any ideas or responses would be appreciated?

    cheers,

    tyres

sounds like your brakes may have siezed! was the hand brake applied while sitting? you could try putting a bit of a rev on it and trying to move forward and in reverse they may free up!

=1, my handbrake froze to one of my wheels twice in the last week!!
or it could be your brake pads seized to the disc, use a hammer and a piece of wood to free it;)

WHen the car goes into gear, does the engine struggle when you attempt to move forward before the car dies? It is possible for one of the brakes to have frozen to the drums (rear ?).
Is there snow blocking your path out if you know what I mean? if the engine starts, leave it warm up before you set off.
Also, pour warm water over the drums in teh rear and disks on the fromnt to eliminate any frozen brakes.

Almeras are very prone to the handbrake seizing if left idle, a wallop to the centre of the wheel with a sledge hammer or lump hammer does the trick (not recommended for alloys obviously)

Before you go walloping your wheels with a sledge, I had to change a wheel one morning last week and the wheel was literally frozen to the hub so I got a kettle of boiling water and poured it over it to free it.

I do know that when the other posters say frozen it's not with ice that they're talking about, but just in case it is ice a kettle of water wont do any harm compared to a sledge.

start car and try to pull forward, you should feel if the handbreak is ingaged, the back of the car will dipp down a bit when this happens, if it dosnt happn and it seems like its another problem i would sugjest its not selecting any gears, maybe the gearbox is knackard, but with this weather it very well could be the handbreak has froze

they can be very stuuborn, you could easily damage the clutch by trying to force it forward.

    hi,

i have exactly the same problem with an 02 almera which wasn't used for the last 2 weeks.

how would you guys suggest freeing up a frozen or seized handbrake?

    thanks for your help,

    colm

Try and nudge it back in reverse and see if it snaps them free. If not, a good slap to the center of the hub with a sledgehammer usually does the trick
