I think there is a thread somewhere with loads of good recommendations.

Personally, Daft Punk-"Harder better faster stronger" is up there in the top cycling tunes.

EDIT: Time for some Daft Hands:

Everyday I love you less and less
It's clear to see that you've become obsessed
I've got to get this message to the press
That everyday I love you less and less
And everyday I love you less and less
I've got to get this feeling off my chest
The Doctor says all I need is pills and rest
Since everyday I love you less and less
    Unless, unless
I know, I feel it in my bones
I'm sick, I'm tired of staying in control
Oh yes, I feel a rat upon a wheel
I've got to know what's not and what is real.

if you're going well then put on 'Floating' by Jape on repeat.

If not, put on 'I think I need a new Heart' by Magnetic Fields.

Actually I got an album for the missus, 101 Running Songs, might be good for the trainer as well , there's a Ministry of Sound Running Trax triple album out as well, a couple of albums I keep coming back to are Perfecto Fluoro by Paul Oakenfold and FACT 1 by Carl Cox.

If your into your rock, Rory Gallagher, AC/DC, Guns N Roses can't go wrong with them, I also find Kings of Leon quiet good..

Anything by snow patrol or kings of leon should do the trick.

There was an article in the weekends Sundays Times about the top 10 Fitness websites http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/the_web/article6981225.ece

and this sounds interesting, I haven't checked it out yet though

For any fitness fanatic who has yet to assemble a decent workout playlist, this Californian DJ offers free, downloadable dance mixes at everything from 130 to a furious 180 beats-per-minute.

I'm of the opinion that your tracks shouldn't have any vocals and should be at least 7 or 8 minutes long. Nothing to remind you how painfully boring the turbo is than to be on your 15th song of the session.
    I like the following:
    Pearls Girl- Underworld
    The Disaster- DJ Hell
    Anything by UNKLE
    Anything by Birdy Nam Nam.
Need tracks with a change of tempo and ones that allow you to zone out.

I've a 55 minute set by Jeff Mills that is raw techno but seems to only last 20 minutes which is the objective of a good playlist.
LCD Sounsystem 45:33 was composed as a soundtrack for training..think NIKE were on board creating it as well!!

Far too much time spent hanging round airport lounges recently (5 flight cancellations in less than a week!), has led me to complile the following playlist on the Ipod:

To encourage me to get on the Turbo:

I can't Stand the Rain (Tina Turner)
    The Thin Ice (Pink Floyd)
Here comes the Flood (Peter Gabriel)
    Thunder and Lightning (Thin Lizzy)
Here Comes the Rain Again (Eurythmics)

    Once I'm on the Turbo:

All revved up with no place to go (Meatloaf)
    Don't stop me now (Queen)
    Highway to Hell (AC/DC)
    Sheer Heart Attack (Queen)
    Cold Sweat (Thin Lizzy)
It's beginning to get to me (Snow Patrol)
    I'm going slightly mad (Queen)
Got to give it up (Thin Lizzy)

To encourage me to get on the road:

Here Comes the Sun (the Beatles)
    Mr Blue Sky (ELO)

    Out on the road:

    Ride On (AC/DC)
    Bike (Pink Floyd)
    Nine Million Bicycles (Katie Melua)
    Revolution (the Beatles)
Back on the Chain Gang (the Pretenders)
Breaking the Rules (AC/DC) - for the RLJs
River Deep Mountain High (Tina Turner) - for the WW200
(Un)Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd) - towards the end of the WW200

    For perusing Wiggle/CRC:

    I Want it All (Queen)

To remind me of other Boardsies:

    Taxman (the Beatles)
Captain Havoc and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (Elton John)
    Hey (Biker) Joe (Jimi Hendrix)
    Caroline, Yes (Kaiser Chiefs)
    RO(C)K ON (T. Rex)
The Fletch(er) Memorial House (Pink Floyd)
The Raam Lies Down on Broadway (Genesis)
    Dirk's Voodoo Child (Jimi Hendrix)
Apache (the Shadows) - el tonto
Space Oddity (David Bowie) - NiceoneMajortom/MajorTomasrojo

    And Finally

The Number of the Beast(y) (Iron Maiden)

Only the 2 flights cancelled today!

Did take a while to skim through the (getting on for 2,000) songs on the Ipod - managed to skip through the "High School Musical" stuff though (blame the kids for that being on my Ipod:))

In attempt to make this work I used Audacity to effect a pitch-neutral BPM change from 108 to 120, then dropped the pitch by three semitones.

The results were better, but I still wanted to punch them in the face. Hard.

Liveline Podcast always does it for me.... hearing so many people moaning about this and that makes the pain i'm feeling not seem so bad :)

Has anyone used the Genius playlist on iTunes ? I've created 2 big playlists for running that are surprisingly good considering it was created by a machine. I selected 2 songs, Cassius by Foals and So here we are by Bloc Party, one for each playlist, that I found to get the blood going and let iTunes create the playlist based on that.

Important to remember here that on the bike music doesn't have to bear any relation to off the bike music. I hadn't actually heard that before but concur big turbo potential.

12 billion light years was only a guess
9 million bicycles - that's a fact - the Chinese operate a scrappage/quota scheme - you must hand an old one in before you can get a new one (a bit like they do with babies) - this way they ensure there are always 9 million bicycles, and Katie (or at least her song) has immortality

Do people try and match their BPMs to cadence or vice versa? I listen to a lot of early 90's UK dance, detroit and garage and grime type stuff when Im out and about as it all runs from about 128-140. Early 90's rave/hardcore which goes from about 136-156 is good if Im feeling particularly energetic, and 160+ jungle is great for downhills.

Here's a few mixes at about 160 and 130 or so.
