Have frames - need new lenses

    Hi all,

I inherited a really nice pair of Prada frames which I would love to use as my everyday wear glasses.

Obviously I need to get the lenses replaced with my own prescription and I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere online that could do this if I sent them the frames, as currently I'm being quoted around E80 locally for just the lenses - whereas online I could get a new pair of frames and lenses for about E15 all in!

Is there anywhere I could get new lenses fitted that's reasonably priced?

fwiw, I have a very straight forward, basic prescription, not looking for any special coatings, varifocals etc..

    Thanks!

If you inherited them I wouldnt be sending them away to an online place to get them done--- they may never come back!

Specsavers will put standard lenses in for 45e.

You'l be asked to sign a disclaimer as they dont sell Prada and could therefore not replace them if anything happened to them. This is just precautionary. 99.9% chances are that nothing will happen.

Are they metal or a plastic frame?

    Hi Misticles,

    They're a plastic frame.

When you say E45 to put in standard lenses - is that for brand new lenses? Doesn't sound so bad if true!

Just curious. Will any optician fit new lenses to an existing pair of glasses, even if it's obvious you didn't buy them there?

Most should, again they may ask you to sign a disclaimer as mentioned.
I had frames before from one place and got the lenses replaced in another.

    Depends on the frame.
if it's a half frame or rimless, they may not as they they come with tracers when the shop buys them so that the glazing machine can measure up the lenses.

If you didnt buy it there, the shop wont have the tracers to make the lenses.

I guess this means that an optician can replace lenses in a full frame as the machine can trace the frame itself. Wondering about this as I need new lenses and I hate going and getting new frames. Yes, I'm a baby...

The previous optician dispensed the lenses incorrectly (what a shock) so I have to change them. Funny thing - the prescription was right and I remember what she wrote down, so optician was competent; the lab was competent because the dispensing is so spot on; as usual it was the person in the middle, the floor staff, who was a bonehead. She actually swapped the cylinder angles between OS and OD. Her only job wa to type in 6 numbers correctly and she failed:

    Here:

    OD: -5.75, -0.75 x 90
    OS: -5.75, -0.50 x 75

is my prescription. My glasses have the 90 and 75 swapped. Unreal. It isn't miles off though so my vision isn't right but it isn't awful either. The pant. tilt was wrong too but I got that fixed. At least the PDs are right... I hope...

Only discovered what they did after a few years of wearing them so I guess getting them to fix it for free might be difficult.

I think in today's competency free world you have to verify everything yourself.
