Of course advertising as "private sale" smacks of "has problems - not willing to put my money where my mouth is"... but will ask top dollar anyway.

plus it's the not so desirable 200.. you need a 230E.

He works in the parts dept AFAIK so he is selling privately, nothing to do with the dealership.

Nice car, 230E would be nicer but that one is auto, elec windows AND the 7 seats.

I'd have it with barely a hesitation if the body was good.

Can't see how the 200 is that much less desirable than the 230E. The latter is the same engine, bored out and with fuel injection. It's also several more years away from classic tax.

Asking price is a bit steep though, isn't it? Although I suppose depending on the interest, he might persuaded by a bag of crisp notes a bit short of his asking price :D

Red wouldn't be my first choice either but Mercs do look well in it if the car is a good clean straight one, a good combination with the chrome.

:( My first car was a W123 estate, a 300D, it was Milan Brown (ehhh.. chocolate brown or some people referred to it as sh*t brown) so I had it resprayed to...... Signal Red, the colour of that car there! It had a fair few scratches and small dents on it at the time so it needed a spray anyway.

It had green tinted windows and I polished the barock alloys up and I have to say it looked fabulous. I had the car in the early 1990's and am glad to say it's still a daily driver for the family I sold it to.

If I was in the market for a second hand car I'd definitley give that one a look.

very nice, i think this was for sale in the last year or so if my memory serves me correctly.

It's been for sale on and off for quite a while. Looks good, unusual spec for an original Irish car. Wouldn't mind seeing it close up. It would make a decent daily driver, assuming there's not too much motorway work involved, though I am not sure how the 2 litre +autobox is geared. From experience the 230 with autobox works at about 3k+RPM at 70ish which is a bit higher than modern stuff.

Nice original looking motor indeed. However from my own experience demand for estates is rare in this country. My friend had a similar one in gold and with a non worn interior for sale last year. Car was for sale for twelve months before it sold. If one was buying a 123 as a classic, one would probably go for the saloon rather than the estate. Estates are difficult to sell in Ireland:p

Suits me. I love the estates and have had a half dozen or thereabouts.
Don't recall seeing a gold one for sale, shawnee. I reckon I probably notice most for sale because, as you say, there aren't many around

Twas for sale on the vintage scene , he had bought a 124 estate, which he felt was a nicer car as a daily driver, still has it and uses it for his work. :p

That's kinda normal for a 4 pot small engine though, isn't it? In comparison, my V8s all ran at about 2k+ at 70ish
