Dual boot causing problems

I've a dual boot system on my laptop (Dell D610), using XP and Ubuntu. My wireless works fine in XP, I can toggle between knocking it on and off by using Function F2.

However, when I restart and select to run Ubuntu, the Wifi light goes out on the laptop and I'm unable to get it on again. As a result, I cant get internet access through Linux.

Any ideas anyone? When I go into manual configuration on Ubuntu I can set the password for the router no problem.
