just looking at the roads this morning with the slight thaw up here and the amount of potholes and cr*p on the roads is unbeleivable.

so watch yourselves out there esp. on country roads i can imagine gravelly muddy corners for a few weeks yet

thinks about dusting off mountain bike

I hope they sweep the grit off the roads and hard shoulders after the thaw. It can take you down if you hit it on a bend or need to break on a downhill.

LMAO :D, we'll be lucky! Given the problems of getting the grit in the first place I wouldnt hold my brreath for a clean up, probably more like they will shovel all the crap into the sides of the roads! :)

Was out this morning down around eniskerry and the roads are a disgrace!
All the grit, sand, stones whatever crap they where throwing out on the road is all in the hard shoulders, makes you ride out on the road which the drivers are not happy about.

Went down the N11 as far as Delgany earlier and also had to move out of the hard shoulder in parts. There were still a couple of patches of ice around the place - had one hairy moment! Didn't have any issues with drivers myself but maybe I just got lucky.

Felt a touch agoraphobic cycling outside again though!

Attempted to cycle to my friend's last night. Should have done what the guy on the road bike was doing when he passed me: bus lane. I was on the mountain bike and while the ice has started thawing on them, all the grit is being swept onto them. Not much trouble on a mountain bike, but they did a great job of hiding the piece of glass I ran over.

Stupidly forgot to check the tyre so I punctured my spare tube before finding where the piece of glass was lodged.

Special thanks to Blorg who I texted in a minor emergency, decided just to park the bike, get the bus home (which was packed all the way up to the front, even though there were seats upstairs, I hate when people don't go upstairs!) and walk for 35 minutes before hopping in a car, driving back down and picking up the bike. Total pain!

Pretty much given up the road bike in favour of the MTB for the last couple of months and I guess I wont be going back to anytime soon.

There seems to be a burst water mains somewhere on rock road, so there's a good few streams of water and large puddles around. It's almost as bad as it was during the flooding in November. Predictably enough I ended up like Dirk hitting glass hidden in one of the smaller puddles. On the bright side, at least the ice has gone :)
