Porn star pundit Ron Jeremy claims that computer games are more dangerous for kids than porn.

In a debate against Jeremy and Craig Gross, an anti-pornography media activist Jeremy that porn was entertainment not unlike football games that caters to the over-18 crowd. He said that he didn't want kids to watch porn, although if they did there are far worse influences out there — like video games.

Jeremy said that studies have found that violent video games are much bigger a negative influence on kids. The filtering, Jeremy argued, should be up to the parents. "Parents better start to learn the Internet," Jeremy said.

Gross, on the other hand, argued that even while the porn industry may not be targeting children specifically, the Internet has made adult content nearly ubiquitous. He pointed out that Jeremy himself was not that good at technology. If you want to get hold of him you have to send a fax.

Don't think he was preaching against video games so much as defending porn. Video games being worse than porn doesn't make either 'harmful'. Perhaps his point was that porn is benign, even more so than games.

I agree with his comment that filtering should be up to the parents, rather than allowing big government to step in censor whatever it deems offensive.

I agree with Fnz. It doesn't sound like he's saying that games are bad, just that if you had to compare the two, games would probably have more of an effect on kids. And I kind of agree. I've learnt recipes from Cooking Mama. I've learned a lot of combat tips because of the wargames I play. I've learned more about business from the games I've played than from the Business Studies classes I've had.

I'm not saying I'm a master chef or know how to kill a man 100 ways with a melon baller, or know how to become a business tycoon, but I've learned a lot from games. On it's own this means nothing. But it means a lot when you guage it against the fact that I've watched huge amounts of porn and am still sh*te in bed!

No, no, no, no. Look someone said something what wasn't a massive sloppy blowjob on how awesome games are, we must get angry and self righteous!

It doesn't matter how innocuous it was in context or that he's putting forward a sensible idea on parents actually paying attention to what media their children consume, he didn't give our hobby the crazy adulation we do and therefore he's stupid, bad and wrong and not even the fact he kinda looks like Mario can save him from our ire.

Now stop being sensible and help me construct an effigy of Ron Jeremy we can burn.

I think he's just employing the O Leary strategy, he was questioned on the evils of Porn, probably wasn't prepared to answer the question fully so picked the most obvious scape-goat out there at the moment; games.

I think its crazy for a well known figurehead of another oft vilified media to start playing the blame game rather than stand up for his own industry with some well thought out arguments, his argument for parents taking control of filtering what their kids see would have been just as applicable if he had not mentioned videogames.
