Guitar Hero 5 Career Mode Question

    I'm new to the GH games and decided to buy the latest game, Guitar Hero 5. I've been getting used to the different controls etc. I'm trying to play the career mode but any song I play the notes coming down the screen aren't the normal circle notes, there's multi-coloured bars coming down. How do I know what buttons to press? I've tried to Google it but can't find anything. Am I meant to know the song off by heart?

    Do you have it on Beginner difficulty?
    That only has bars you strum on but dont press any button.Youd need to move the difficulty up
