    Hi

Can you give us a bit more info, like what email are you using such as gmail and also what wifi on you on like eircon or VF.

I am assuming that you have checked the configurations,

What is the ipod telling you when it cant connect, what errors are there.

    Cheers

I don't know what service provider it is. It's the Sligo it student network. It's a proxy server that requires authentication. I have my password and everything set up and it works because I am able to go on safari on the iPod. The weather, stocks, and maps app work. Some apps that let you input proxy authentication upon startup work, so it must be aproblem that the apps can't get on the proxy because it can not authenticate as it requires a username and password. Is there an app that let's you input proxy network settins for all other apps.?

The same thing happens with other wifi services that require a tick box (for free wifi terms), or password (for paid wifi).

The way around it is simple, for me at least. Open Safari, and log on to the web, input any user name/password etc
Then close and open the gmail or facebook apps. As long as those sites are on a blocked list at the college they should work.
Hopefully the server remembers your ipod and you don't have to input the password again. Its just like opening another webpage

Is it a case that some of these services are barred on the college wi-fi network. Can you access Facebook if you use a regular college PC?

Sounds like they are blocked by Proxy, normally college and offices have social networking, mails blocked, there is a way around it but not worth it unless you want to get in trouble.

No it's not blocked by the college cause I can get on the websites on the college computers and on my laptop when connected to the wifi. Also I can go on all the websites on safari on iPod touch so I know they aren't blocked. Is there an app that will let me select proxy settings for all other apps? Also one suggestion was go on safari and enter proxy username and password but I am not prompted to enter it as it is saved on the wifi settings. Btw I am typing this on my iPod so this works.:)

It seems that the proxy authentication only works for Apple's own apps (Safari) and then only for port 80(html) only. So Safari will work and the App store browsing will work but as soon as you try to buy an App then secure authentication kicks in and will not work.
There are lots of people having similar problems - so it means that you can use Safari only.
The only way around it is to bypass the proxy and my guess is that your college will not let you do that.

I have app though called 'irish weather' that asks me to input username and password upon startup.
Any one else know any apps that support proxy username and passwords?

Another problem. I can't access YouTube on either the app or safari. Anyone else having this problem?
