I was thinking of buying a Clulite Torch, one of the heay duty models like the SM 126. Has anyone out there one of these and would they recommend them?

My Dad has had two of >these< and they're good enough, heavy though.

What do you want it for?

I was going to use it for general use and as a "search light" on the fox, I have a lightforce which I would use on longer shots but I would like to be able to use this light to shoot out to around the 150 - 180 m mark

I used my Dad's one for after foxes once upon a time. I wouldn't recommenced it for the job.

Candlepower forums might have a better type of torch to suit your needs. I got a nice small torch, spot a foxes eyes 250 yards, shoot him just out past 100. Not saying it's for you, but, there could be a handier type of torch out there that would, well, weigh less really :)

LF is pretty much the right tool for foxy, what model you got and what amp battery? Or are you running it from a vehicle?

Yea I will have a look at those. I had one of he smaller clulites, the classic one but its on the blink now so was considering getting a larger model. I thought it was a great light for the money and very light and handy to use as a search light, the only problem was that I couldn't shoot out past 100m with it. They larger models do look rather big and bulky alright, thanks John.

Got a 170 LF, and I run it off the jeep (keep meaning to get a battery connection for it). I have two horizon 7.2 ah batteries and my mate uses them on his LF 170 when we go out. I'm not a fan of the LF for searching, they tend to light up the whole country. Great light for shooting off alright.

I've a Lightforce 170, scope mounted model, 18amp battery in my backpack (going to upgrade to 22amp soon), 50W bulb and shoot out past 200 yards when needs be :)

Not much use for general work granted :)

That's a nice set up you have, do you use a filter on the LF?

I can vouch for Johns lamping kit...I was out shooting wit him during the floods a while back and bursted a nice vixon at 250 yds.... his kit lit her up like it was daylight.....

I don't normally use a filter. I have an Orange/Amber filter for it. First night I used that I shot 6 foxes lol. I found the Red filter cuts out too much light, so I gave it away. I have an inline dimmer which is very useful. Also have a Green filter which I've not shot anything with, so far. I don't use them much, if I was to buy only one for foxes it would be the Orange/Amber every time.

my light focre 70 striker i think the model it is on a 12 volt bike battery lasts ages
if ya need more time than this to lamp your blind or single
dont get it all the lamping posts about batteries and stuff
ya see eyes if there any colour apart from orange there not a fox at the most of times but this comes down to experience 90% of oranage eyes are fox about 2% of white blue eyes are fox 8% i dont no and dont shoot at

but by no means shoot at a pair of eyes unless ya see a body outline and no what it is ie red and white chest AND IS A FOX

Depends, if you've to stay out for hours on end to get that one problem fox, plenty of juice is needed. Always good to keep up on the new fangled bits of technology that come out each year :) Mate of mine been lamping for 17 years, used a handheld car light until I introduced him to Lightforce, he wouldn't be without it now :)
