Cone filter question!

I picked up a Pipercross cone filter the other day, fairly cheap.

Im just wondering, is it possible that it can make my car slower?

I've been testing its pick up speed and im undecided tbh. It wasnt bad as it was but im not sure with the cone, seems more hesitant or something, could be my imagination;)

Now my car isnt a rocket by anymeans, its a 1.4 16v Astra with 90bhp but its nippy enough.

The set up before the cone was just a few "breather" mods. It had the standard airbox with the bottom pipe removed, K&N panel filter and the original restricting air intake was replaced with a much more open one off a Vectra CDTi.

    Any opinions? :pac:

Is it an open cone setup in the engine bay?

If so then it will be sucking in hot air which will lose you top end power

yeah its an open cone in the bay, the only cold air is coming from the vectra pipe but its not so much top end its losing, just a slightly different feel. cant really put my finger on it. sometimes it feels better and other times it doesnt.

i may just leave it for a while and see. it'll probably be a pain in the ass during the summer so will definately resort back to the original setup in the summer.

    thanks for the reply :)

What type of filter is it? is it oil based? chances are your MAF now has a nice coating of oil from the filter so is giving mixed readings, that married with the fact its sucking in hot air from the engine bay will make the car feel off.

I never got open cone filters in engine bays, moat pointless modification ever - that is not a dig at you OP.

oh i know, no problem. it was more curiosity than anything. its a pipercross foam cone. couldnt say no for the grand sum of €13 brand new.

i prob will go back to the original setup, purely because it is enclosed and has the direct cold feed.

    cheers
