Listening to the radio yesterday and there was an insurance guy talking about how claims have rocketed since the bad weather started...Burst pipes, low speed car accidents etc..So i am wondering how many of you have made a false insurance claim or even exagerated the claim for a couple of extra euros....Be honest now guys and gals

well you need a certain amount of proof for the claim, so fake claims wouldn't be totally straight forward... i think these days with money being tighter people might claim for minor stuff where before they mightn't have bothered, the bad weather will cause claims because stuff gets damaged, I don't see why fake claims would increase with the bad weather

I've never had insurance other than mistakenly ordering travel insurance. I'm with Ned Flanders on this one it's a form of gambling and displeases God. Whenever I have the travel insurance it always feels like a waste if I come home without an injury.

Increased profits for insurance companies would be my guess.

You forgot to mention fraudulent claims, like pretending you were under a bridge when it collapsed.

Jesus I forgot about the car insurance. OK so I've never willingly bought insurance. You have no option but to get car insurance.

Considering there are very few connections to the people on this site and the resources to invest in the matter, I doubt if people admit to it, they are going to end up in court...

Nah, fraud = intelligent. It's just annoying that somebody else got a nice pay off from using their brain... It's the games fault, not the players' :)

While this is blamed, and companies will abuse this every single time, I think there is a more obvious reason you are told this... increased revenue...

I bought some expensive limited edition Cohiba brand cigars.

    Glad I had them insured.

They were mysteriously destroyed in a series of small fires on New Years night :D Making a claim tomorrow.

Believe it or not, a case similar to this came to court once. The insurance company did not have to payout as deliberate arson was not covered.

Some people I know diddled the insurance company. I hate people like this. They are the same type that would sue you if their kids fell in your garden or something.

Yeah but it's a system that works isn't it. If you have a legitamite claim you get reimbursed don't you? It's people that make these false claims that drives up the cost of insurance.

That would depend on the extent of the small print, probably not.

You have never made a claim have you?

Again, profit seeking drives up profits, you see those ads, they are paid for by the insuramce companies.

Yeah profit seeking too, but the cost of paying out extra compensation drives the cost up the other customers up also!
I'm not saying I love insurance companies but I can't stand dishonesty - from either side!
No I've never had to make a claim (touch wood).

I wouldn't do it cause karma will come back and bite you on the ass for it. I know that when my house was burgled, the insurance company wouldn't pay out on the full amount of what was stolen, because we did not insure it for enough. Lesson learned from that though.

They took money from large corporations, big deal... really. Same corporations are raping people left right and centre on a daily basis. If you can get anything off those bastards, do it.

It works for who? You? I doubt it... it might give you peace of mind but a lot of companies, if not most of them, will try to work their way out of paying you your full claim... due to some bullshít issue.

    The insurance companies are scum...

Wow, I can't believe you swallowed that capitalist propoganda bullshít.

I find it fcuking hilarious... I really do. These large organisations, banks and our government have made some very bad decisions, they squandered billions of euros on trivial shíte. They then turn the books and get Joe "thick as a fcuking plank" Soap to think it was his friends, neighbours or colleagues fault with these transparent thoughtless adds. "Do you know somebody who made a false insurance claim? That is like stealing from you, report them"... Really... can people not see how fcuked up that is? I am not sure if this is happening yet or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a big campaign to stamp out dole fraud, claiming that fraudsters are the ones who caused the recession, etc etc.

This countries laws order you to have insurance in order to drive. With our shíte public transport, we rely heavily on private transport. There are no laws to protect the consumer when asking for a quote. You basically have to go with what they say. If your premium goes up, yet you have not made any claims, they basically blame this on the economy, weather, crime and you have to pay the extra cash. Now, you have just added another year to your experience and no claims bonus, yet you have to pay more...

Apparently us boy racers drive insurance up?

    Excuse the pun :pac:

Ah here, it has to factor in, the more customers they have to pay out to = increased costs = more costs on everyone else. How is that 'swallowing capitalist bs'?
I'm not blaming the recession on anyone, I never mentioned it!! Just not a fan of cheaters!

What I mean by my posts is this... Insurance fraud is on the rise therefore premiums go up. What is happening is people are just simply taking the piss, and instead of 1-2% premium rise across the board, it's going up 30-35%... get me?

Same with the recession. Companies saying they couldn't give bonuses or update systems or spend any cash on anything because of the recessions, even though some of those companies made bigger profits than the boom years. They cut staff and perks and whatnot, just to churn out massive revenue.

Those adds you see are complete and utter bullshít. The whole point of it being compulsory to have insurance should mean that insurance companies be not for profit or extremely competitive... right now they are having a right laugh on the cost of the consumer...
