    Hey,
The last day or two i've been trying unsuccessfully to move the missus library (with music and apps) from an old pc onto her new netbook. Both are running the latest itunes. I tried backing up to cd but it has never completed the back up fully. It says i need four blank cds and has at different times stopped after the first cd or third. Tried home sharing but it wont share the apps or let me move the music into the library.
The last time i had to do this i was able to use my old ipod to move the music. She has an ipod touch and i'm told that this isnt possible.
I seem to remember somebody telling me about some nifty program you can download to do this? cant understand why apple dont make this easy and fast losing my rag with the old pc that came perilously close to being launched out the window last night. There is probably some straightforward way of doing this i'm not seeing. Any ideas??

How big is the iTunes library?

If it weren't too big you could transfer using a USB Stiff and drag and drop the files.

Does the old pc allow you to burn on DVD? Make a playlist and copy across to the netboot this way?

the library is not too big. its my girlfriends and she only has around 370 songs and maybe a dozen apps. i tried burning and it told me i would need 4 cds. i never got to the fourth cd. everytime i tried it reacted as if i wasnt loading blank discs. i have managed to move it all onto an external hard drive so now all i need to do is figure out how to move it to the netbook. it works fine on the netbook but only when the hard drive is plugged in. any ideas would be appreciated

    Ok

If it only works with the external drive plugged in then perhaps the iTunes preferences are not set up properly.

Has the latest iTunes S/W been installed onto the Netbook?
If so go to the preferences for iTunes and click on the "Advanced" tab and see where the option "iTunes Media folder location" is pointing to.
This is the location where any imported songs are copied to. It should reside on the Netbook itself if not when the external hard drive is removed then iTunes will show a list of songs BUT when you click to play a song an exclamation mark will appear beside it because the MP3 can't be found.

Another suggestion is to tick on the option "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library"

This will result in any further CD's etc being copied to the location of your iTunes library - Consolidation.

I have set my library to reside on an external hard drive and this works for me BUT I will get the exclamation mark if I don't have the external hard drive mounted.
