Looking for advice, paid a deposit by CCard before Xmas on a golf. Golf is due to be collected this week but since the deposit was paid VW (Ireland) have reduced the price of the Golf by 2,400 according to the marketing campaign.
Dealer is looking into my query on this while another says that the price had been reduced already (Dec 2009) but that they are only now advertising it (Jan 2010).
Point is I don't want to pay over for a new car now and later find that VW did not apply the correct discount.
Should I delay the transaction and get the dealer to provide a letter from VW Ireland to indicate the position?

I would wait for offical confirmation before paying another penny but you should also go to another VW dealer and see what price they are quoting now to see if are getting the discount or not.

How much was the deposit you paid? If VW say that you entered into the contract at the old price then be prepared to pull out of the existing deal. If you are saving €2,400 by pulling out of this deal and buying at the new discounted price somewhere else then you can still afford to loose your original deposit.

I would think even mentioning this to the sales man if he doesn't budge would work.
(Thats if your deposit is less than 2.4K)

thanks for that advice, you both have valid points.
I won't pay a penny until official clarification comes in and yes I will ask another dealer for a price to see where they have / have not moved from.

Don't want to be suckered on this later on in the year by buying too early.

Deposit was small as car was in the country.

When I sold cars, we accepted deposits on the basis that the price paid was based on the price of the car on the date of delivery.

yep, if it went up in price it'd be a different story, theres a condition that provides for that in the SIMI order form you would/should have signed.
