    Heyho,

Picked this up yesterday - pretty good, devil may cry meets god of war, button mashing hack-em-up. Mainly got it for the art direction - the characters and sets are really great. Gets good reviews on Metacritic.

I'd recommend if you need something to tide you over until GoW3.

    Some interesting puzzle sections also
in the level with the bat queen - thats where I am currently - involving the crossblade - I thought they were more innovative than the usual find the key, push the blocks puzzle (though they also exist)

Yeah I've been enjoying it too. It took a while to get going but once you get to the first dungeon section it picks up. The character design is great, some of the textures in places are lacking though or of low quality.
I would descibe it as a combination of God of War and Zelda. The dungeon sections are exactly like any of the zelda games since the N64 and the battle sections remind me of GOW.

The puzzles will get more fiendish later on
like when you get the voidwalker, some of those puzzles had me scratching me head for ages

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭ravydavygravy

Played some more last night, and I'm upgrading it from good to EPIC! Really enjoying it, great puzzles, tough bosses (well, hardy anyway - took me > 1 hour of trying to beat the first major boss....) and good story.
I'm just at the bit where you and ulthane are teamed up against the angelic masses, but I keep dying when I get the big cannon gun - moar practice needed...

    Its a great game.

A lot of the criticism against it lay in the the fact that it ''borrows'' from Zelda and GOW but whats the harm? The puzzles are great
the revolving platform before the bat queen was really enjoyable
and have a Zelda/Prince of Persia vibe to them. The story may not be as good as GOW but its still interesting and presented with serious love.

There's lots of attention to detail in there too, lots of little environmental things the react to your character. Also WAR's design is fantastic, its like I notice something new about his model every time I look at him close up.

    Well worth a go!

That bomb puzzle in the cathedral (rotating platform room) put a big smile on my face when I figured it out.

I'm aware the 360 version is riddled with bugs and the ps3 is seemingly the platform of choice for darksiders but has no one else noticed the awful framerate?

At first i thought it was down to the game installing to the HDD on the fly but its not simply that.
Its not deal breaker bad, but its certainly unpleasant, especially so in open areas where panning the camera around is anything but smooth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭RAIN

Yes I noticed those issues on PS3. You would have to be leaning pretty hard on the critical pedal to not get the game cus of it though, its nothing as bad as the the 360 issues.

I really wasn't expecting that kind of puzzle in this game, it really wasn't pitched as that kind of thing. Pleasantly surprised!

got this the other day andlike all of you am finding it great maybe even sleeper hit of the year (i know january is early) but its such a good game

As far as i know the 360 is being patched, could knock the ps3 version off it's pedestal when it's done. Still will be getting it for the ps anywho :P

Just finished playing about an hour of it. Love it so far, like a toss up between God of War and Zelda (as already stated).

Picked it up friday, loving it so far, puzzles are really good and so far no timed ones like GOW(thank god i hated those). Up to the worm dude now, bloody hell how long does it take to kill him.

any advice on how to get past the piece before the worm dude where there is three things down over a zip line?? cant figure out where to go yet!

Trying to figure out where you are, is this after the fight in the Arena against the guy on the horse. don' remember many puzzles in that level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭nialo

Nope. tis not long after the second main boss, kinda on the way to the third. cant remember the exact name of the location, will have to check when i get home. think its before any dude on a horse as i dont remember killing anyone like that! :)

Think i know the spot I just past that point over the weekend, What i did was i hit the 3 things With your glaive this makes them retract up. Then jump and glide over under the middle one go left and if you hit R1 while on the zip line he will move fast and manage to get past the 3rd one. (when you hit the zip line if you go right you can get up to a chest also.)

Well thats the way i did it i was trying to jump and glide from the zip line to the climbing area but hit the wrong button and got past it by accident :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭nialo

Will try that tonight! never thought off using r1. just thought they came back to quickly to have a hope of getting past.
seemed like there had to be a different way! :)

Picked it up last week... didn't know too much about it but ah sure the box looked nice as did the screenshots on the back..

So let the nipper play away on it for a few hours, he said it was good, certainly sounded good, could feel the subwoofer shaking the floor all over the house...

Anyway, finally got my game and have to say really enjoying it, have the same sort of feeling as I did for Dead Space last year, didn't know that much, bought on off chance and really enjoy.

The characters are well thought out and it aint no walk over either, playing on normal and just passed the jailer fella, who by the way was cool, such detail and very enjoyable when he died...

One thing though is that so many buttons to use, gets a it fiddly with the cross sword thing when you're aiming and stuff...

Overall, great game and can't wait to get further... tis a bit of a rip of GOW but so what!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭ravydavygravy

Finished it eventually, 20-ish hours, then got the rest of the abysmal armour pieces, now playing apocalypic setting with the abysmal armour.

Sweet, sweet game - can't wait for the inevitable sequal!
Did anyone else thing the final few bosses (sparga/destroyer/abaddon) were easy compared to the earlier ones? I thought the bat was the hardest boss, and then the spider - the rest were pretty easy once you figured out their trick/timing... In fact the hardest bit of the game were the sections where you got rushed with 3-4 waves of increasingly difficult enemies - they took a few attempts sometimes.

Yeah was thinking that last night. The bat took me a good few attempts, the others were easy especially the 2nd guy. yet to get the final 2, just got the portal gun

Could someone help me out here? Just beat miamat ( big scary bat dude) and now I'm stuck. There's an area after this where you walk onto a platform with spinning blades underneath. I can't see anything on the walls to climb from one blade to another so what am I supposed to do here.

Its been awhile, from what I remember you just jump twice and glide accross. I remember thinking that bit was a little odd.

Tried that a coulpe of times before I went to bed but didn't work I'll have another go this evening thanks.

I'm having trouble killing that twat bitch Tiamat... anyone got any good hints... so bloody fiddly trying to light the x blade thing to light the bombs...????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭ravydavygravy

How I beat Tiamat, after a good period of experimentation:

Phase 1 - use L2 to lock on to her, grab a bomb, make sure you have a clear path to throw at her, and press O - she should now have a bomb on her. Dodge any fireballs she may throw, or position yourself behind a pillar. When ready, press R3 to go to target mode, charge the crossblade (hold down R2), quickly target a torch and the bomb on her and press O to throw. Quickly dodge any incoming fireballs. You'll need to do this twice, and between the two, she do 3 dive bomb attacks - simply use L2 to lock onto her and watch where she is, then use R1 to dodge sideways when she dives.

Phase 2 - shes on the ground and pissed. Use L2 to keep the camera focused on her. You should attack her when she is walking slowly towards you - unleash a strong combo or two on her (I used R1+Triangle with the scythe equipped - think you need to buy this move first though). When she jumps up in the air, wait for her to drop and double jump to avoid. When she charges you, press O to counter when the QTE prompt appears.

The hardest bit for me to get was the first phase - just needs practice, so you can get through this without taking much (any) damage. Patience and L2 are your friends. When you have it right, the whole fight takes ~5 mins.

people comparing this to Soul Reaver has certainly piqued my interest in it. might be one to pick up when it hits 20 quid or so

Need a helping hand with this again. Just past the stage with the big Scottish guy and have beaten the next boss for the first time by using the cannon. I'm now stuck at a stage where the entire room is filled with water except for a patch of land in the middle. There's bombs on this island but where do I throw them. There seems to be a shipwreck boat slighlty sticking out of the water also. Does anyone know what I'm on about????

YES!! Who is that dude? I saw him a few times too.:pac:

Can you get the armour before you go up against the destroyer? or is it possible to collect all the bits before that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,920 ✭✭✭AnCapaillMor

It'd want to be possible, the destroyer is end game. There's a youtube going around of the locations. Also there's a weapon upgrade that will show all chests on a map. You'll need most if not all of the weapons\tools to get them.

Speaking of which did anyone see chests on the map but they're not bloody there. I can think 4 at least, in particular across from where you use the hor for the first time. Can't find the thing at all. Tried the shadow mask and it made no difference.

I would go for God of War.

I find that whole crusading saga as interesting as greek mythology.

However i'd go for GOW3 seeing as it's God of War 3 :P

erm.. God of War is available 19th march. in the time preceding that you just might be interested in Bioshock 2/Alien v Predator/Heavy Rain/Bad Company 2/Final Fantasy XIII, to name a few?!

Dante's Inferno demo was ok but it wouldn't hold my attention for long - whatever floats ur boat.
