RTE PLAYER OPEN FOR INTERNATIONAL ACCESS

    Hi
have been playing around with RTE player tonight which seems to work for those outside of ireland
This seems to have changed since last i tried from the UK in end of November. The range is limited to mostly news based programmes as i was playing with the ROI version at home in ireland over Christmas and the full range of RTE programmes is on there. However there are still a few gems in there like oilean, summer of 69,and the late late show as well.
It is a lot more user friendly to access them this way than before when you had to go through the rte news section and go through each progamme individually.
I thought it might be a fluke but the FAQ has been changed to mention that it is now is open for international access.
Have a look and see what you think
    http://www.rte.ie/player/#
I have also checked the TV3 player with a limited programme range which also seems to work at least for me here in the north of england, please try it and see if it works further afield
    http://www.tv3.ie/
Of course this adds to the considerable amount of programming internationally from TG4 for all the irish abroad
    http://www.tg4.ie/bearla/scei/beo.asp
Not sure if the info about RTE PLAYER going international has been "in the wild " yet but apologies if it has.
Have posted this on digitalspy as well, sorry but this is a big thing to all UK based Irish since the RTE International TV channel seems to be stillborn, at least someone in RTE is taking the "diaspora" seriously.
    Cheers
    Paul

This is brilliant! I'm at Uni in Chester (UK) and have had to use torrents for any irish shows.

Thanks for letting me know :D

Naturally it's strictly limited. Over in wales at the moment and getting news etc.

Is that the reason that a load of the shows are blocked then? Do the actors get commission per viewership or whats the story?

And what about other things like documentaries or the house fixer uper programmes? Theres no actors in them and they are also blocked.

Some of the shows will not be cleared due to rights reasons such as music used and clips from other shows.

Fair City is not on the player at all because equity have an issue with it.

Here is an idea of what is currently on it. A print screen of as much as my monitor would allow. The programming line up is very limited

Funny enough I had only mentioned to somebody last week about not being able to ( bar the news ) view RTE programmes online so I for one am happy to see we now can with Real Player .

    @Minstrel27

Thats really not indicitive of all the shows on the RTE Player. The A to Z list gives a complete run down...

That is all they show on the front page of the international version though.

Having looked through the A-Z just now and there is hardly anything there either.

    How right you are.:(

Why they never went for a Premium one ie the expats pay say €9.99 a month via PayPal and you get what licence payers get. A winwin situation.:)

But alas Montrose lets the expats down again.:(

Emmm don't think you can mention illegal site here. Shhh. Are they illegal?

Because they would have to by some kind of rights for the ex-Pats for imports, they possible couldn't afford worldwide pay rights even with a subscription fee.

What sort of idiot are you , How could a VPN Provider be illegal , They provide the connections its upto the end user what they use them for.

I hadn't actually looked at your links before I posted. Hence the question at the end of my previous post.

But it does bring up other questions. Is the VPN provider paying rights to TV channels/Rights holders to allow people on their Virtual networks to view foreign TV.

And I know that for a long time in the States cable companies had the same argument. "We just provide the connection not really up to us what people do with the connection".

I spotted the Sunday Sport programme on it so I see no reason for The Sunday Game to appear when it starts again. IIRC, last year the Sunday Game was online for island of Ireland up until Wednesday. Then it was available worldwide.
