I'm a sixth year student hoping to do Irish and Journalism in DCU next year.
Is it a course worth doing??
I'm just looking for a brief description of the course cos i'm still not quite sure what to do next year!
How high does your standard of Irish need to be??
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks:)

Well if if by worth doing you mean will you get a job out of it - you are fairly guaranteed to walk into something. Most of the final years in it walk into INTRA posts in TG4 or RTE without exception. I've heard a rumor that a number of places in both institutions are actually reserved for INTRA students from this course. There seems to be a need in the industry for the type of graduates this course creates.

In terms of the course I know a number of people doing it. They seem to like it but there is a hell of a lot of required trips to gaelteacht regions and stuff that can be sprung on you at the last minute. As for level of Irish you will need a B3 in higher level as a pre-requisite. There are plenty of opportunities to develop your Irish language skill whilst on campus also - through the college paper, the irish language publication which the class produced this year which was excellent quality and the radio station. DCUtv may also start some irish language programmes at some point.

Hope this is of some help.
