Independent Saab Garage or Gearbox Specialist?

    Hi all,

Looks like I might have damaged the gearbox of my Saab 95 Vector Auto today trying to dig myself out of a few slippy spots on the road. On the last occasion (right outside my gate) I tried to reverse into my driveway. I lost traction but kept the power on hoping to get the little bit I needed to get me in the gate but it didn't work. There was a burning smell which I put down to the wheels spinning. I engaged Drive to park down the hill and when I got into a safe place I engaged Reverse to get in tight to the kerb only to find out that reverse no longer turned the wheels at all. There was zero purchase and no wheel spin, it feels like engaging reverse is the same as engaging neutral. I thought it might be some sort of overheating cut-off so I left the car for an hour to cool down and tried again but no change, reverse still won't engage the wheels. Forward drive is fine.

From what I can suss out online it's likely that the brake bands (internal clutch like things) have burnt and cooked the oil whic will require a trip to the garage to repair.

The car is a (well looked after low milage) 2002 which I want to hold onto for another year or two as it still runs perfectly and I won't get anything for it anyway, even as a trade in.

Can anyone recommend an independent Saab garage in the South Dublin area or a gearbox specialist?

I'm looking for good quality work without main dealer prices. (who isn't!!)

    Regards,

    Ben
