Why do people get more than 1 Life Sentence?

In the US, after huge court cases or whatever, like murders, homicides, and all the like, ive heard some verdicts such as "X Y received 2 life sentences in prison for terrorist acts"

Why the extra life sentence? I mean, unless God himself reincarnates/revives you, I think you're pretty much history. Is it for grins and giggles? Or is a life sentence equal to the average male/female life expectancy?

It's pretty much to convey the lenght of incarcaration. It's just technical. If you get a couple of life sentences, you know unless you live to a ridiculous age you're not getting out.

/waits for a lawyer to say I'm wrong

It's because life doesn't mean 'for the rest of their lives'
it means 15 years..or 25..can't remember which, but the possibility of parole is there..

what I don't get is the 50 life sentences etc..even with parole they're never getting out, so why don't they just say 'life without the chance of parole' cos it means the same thing?!

What gets me is when they get them (and life doesn't mean life) and they "run concurrently"......i.e. they still get out after 10 - 15 years.

    "Life" should mean "life".

Multiple life sentences can be handed out to indicate seriousness of a crime ie mass murder as some kind token gesture to victims relatives, it can also determine length of time after which parole may be applied for - which can range from 10yr to never depending where in the world you are.

It's because some people have more than one account and they use the others to troll.

If you give multiple life sentences you are sure to kill all their alt accounts. ;)

I don't think we need to wait for a cure for ageing. The parole board in Ireland waits a mere 7 years before starting to review life term prisoners for eligibility.

If I was trolling, this would pretty much be the last thing to troll about.

The last thing you'd troll about? You've obviously given it a lot of thought. Now that you mention it, if I was going to troll, it would be 'Why is grass green?'

I don't suppose if they get one life sentence quashed then another one would still exist and so no freedom?
