MTB Size

    Hi All,

I know this has been done to death at various times, and i have searched through and read the general consensus on size, but just maybe to confirm it as i am planning to take up MTBing again and am going to buy a bike.

My situation is i have a chance to get a Specialized MTB, 19", online for a good deal, but i'm not sure on the sizes, i am a shade under 6'0 so from checking spesh website, i kinda fall between the 19 and 21.

I have rented the Rockhoppers in Ballyhoura and was given the 19' by the guy there and seemed fine to me. I have an old mtb which is 21' but i think this would be a little too big for XC in terms of handling etc.

So from reading through other posts on this, the general consensus would be to get a MTB on the small side,. so perhaps the 19" will be fine for me?

The other problem is, as it's really my first mtb, trying other sizes,i dont have any reference so i dont really know what's comfortable?

Any advice ref above..in general, would 6'0 people have 19' frames? I personally wold have thought a 21" would be for someone min 6'0 +, realistically, 6'1 or 6'2?

    cheers

I'm 6'2" and all my Specialized mtbs have been 19". Sounds like a 17" maybe 19" would suit you best.

Nip into Cycleways (I assume you're in Dublin) and sit on a few of the Specialized bikes just to check.

What are you planning on getting? Even if it's a great deal, give it a miss if the size isn't perfect.

    tks Morgan

I've been to ballyhoura 3 times and hired the rockhoppers, 19" which seemed fine, but yes i am in dublin, will take a trip to cycleways and try a few,but again as not having a ref point, i'm not sure what is good and what is not.

Friend of a friend in UK is selling his spesh stuntjumper HT so it will be a case of buying without trying, 2010 model..nothing definite yet but he just called me tonite about it.

Probably a little highend for someone getting back into it but i have the money for it at a stretch but i think, based on previous experience years ago when i went up the mountains on a 200GS groupset, just when SIS came into fashion, that getting something with decent components will stand over time - took a few spins with friends of mine back in the day in MAD up the mountains, but ended up spending more than bike was worth repairing it after those outings, on more than one occassion!!..

Anyway, tks for the advice, will take a spin into cycleways and size a few out, hopefully get onto the mountains once the weather clears, and i get a bike!

    tks
