I have it from a pretty reliable source that the water is going to be cut off at 4PM today untill tomorow morning, so if you need to take a shower, or you want to have drinking water later, you have half an hour to make it happen.

(I'm in Tallaght btw, not sure where else it's going to effect)

    Mod edit:

Fingal County Council has said some people are experiencing disruption to their water services, because supply is low, and some pipes leading to houses have frozen.

The council is not cutting off the water supply at 3pm, as rumoured on Twitter.

Very low presure in Poppintree since 12pm today.
Teletext states Fingal anounced people are experiencing low supplies and low presure due to frozen pipes in housing estates.

I've got water in the cold tap but none from the hot tap.

Does this mean my pipes are frozen?

Or does it mean there is no water from the mains?

    I'm confussed

If they do go ahead with this, then watch out for a big, hairy, 31 year old mans arse, sticking out over the edge of a balcony in a Tallaght apartment block, with large turds of sh!te falling from it, 4 stories up.

It'll be mine. Cos I sure as fcuk won't be leaving it unflushed in my own bathroom.

Why would they turn off the water?

Edit: Actually, i suppose its to do with bursting pipes and that...

Water is not being cut off. Pressure is being reduced.

Cause some people are leaving their water runnning all night cause they think their pipes will freeze otherwise, so the resevoiurs are low all over the shop.

The water in my area has been turned off from 8 pm to 8 am for most of the past week.

But I'm not from Dublin so I don't need to moan about it.

I'm prity sure they would let us know. At least I hope they would. I'll fill up the bath just in case.

Have you got water upstairs? My guess is that pressure has been reduced in your area to an extent where it's not travelling from the mains to the tank upstairs? Hence having no hot water tap (comes from tank in loft/attic0 and running cold (comes direct from mains)

Thats my 2 cents anyway :D

Notification of low water pressure and possible disruption to water supply
    Update @ Saturday 9th January 10:30.

All water supplies in South Dublin County area are operating but may be operating at a reduced pressure level

    Friday 8th January, 2010.

Water supplies in South Dublin County Council are at a critically low level due to the increased demand on the water network during this extended cold spell of weather.

As a result the Council has had to implement pressure control measures resulting in reduced water pressure to Lucan, Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Tallaght, Templeogue, Walkinstown, Terenure and Ballymount areas. This regime will be in place until water supply level returns to normal.

South Dublin County Council is appealing to water consumers to conserve water and not to leave taps running during this current cold spell.

Tips for conserving water in the home

    • Be leak free – Check for running overflows and fix any dripping taps, cisterns or pipes. If you see a leak in a public place, please report it to South Dublin County Council
    • Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they're full
    • Don’t leave the tap running while brushing your teeth
    • Use a basin to rinse/clean your fruit and vegetables
    • Reduce the time you spend in the shower
    • Know how to turn off your water supply in the event of a pipe burst
    • Hot Drinks – only fill the kettle with enough water for your needs We appreciate your co-operation and patience at this time Water is precious.

Let's conserve it. - Tá uisce luachmhar. Caomhnaímís é.
