If your building new,it would make sense to go i3 but,if you have all the stuff (DDR2 ram,P45 motherboard) for a 775 setup, then pickup a quad. You might not even need a quad depending on what you do wiht your PC

Up to you and your budget. The i3 is better most of the time but it carries a much steeper upgrade cost as you'd have to get new memory as well as the CPU and mobo. Of course, if you could flog the old stuff... ;)

Ideally, you could try get a Q6600 2nd hand, no need to upgrade the mobo and it would set you up for a good while yet in games.

When you start pricing up a new P45 mobo and a new Core2quad the only real difference between a icore5 and the Core2quad would be at least €100 for 4gig of ram.
Sollies suggestion of selling your gear to offset the new stuff is prob your bet bet if you have your heart set on a quad.

Whats your current spec? What games/apps do you use that might need a quad?
