Rev needle jumping?

I was sick for a week since Christmas/new year, so I wasn't able to drive my car or even start it up during that period. I started it up for the first time on Tuesday and the needle started jumping for about 30-60 seconds and then rested at idle. I drove it for about an hour that day and the engine sounded fine. The rev counter didn't jump at all when I drove the car.

I started the car up again this morning, and the rev needle started jumping again, but only for about 5-10 seconds this time and then rested at idle.

Is it just the cold weather or could there be something seriously wrong?

The ECU will read the outside temp and start the car in cold start mode during this weather,i wouldn't really worry about it too much.

Isnt the rev counter usually hooked up to the coil? could mean you have a dodgey coil.
