had slight bump into car in front of me this morning. there was no visible damage to my car but there was a crack in bumper of the car i hit. As it was totally my fault should i have still took note of their insurance details.
this is my first accident in eight years of driving, has anyone on boards had a similar scenario?

Not personally, but I know of people who have.

It really depends on the person who you hit into, they could ask for you to pay for the costs of their car being put up on a lift to check if there is any internal damage, the may ask for nothing and just leave it.

Ball in their court and all that, time will tell.

Edit: Did they take your number etc.?

They will prob have the cra checked out in a garage and you may have to fork out for it. Depending on person as well tbh. A small crack could end up costing quite a lot. Did they have a tow bat on the back as a number of places reccomend change it if your hit from behind.

I gave them my name, address, phone number and name of insurance company iam with. It was a small crack about 2" in center of bumper.

Just hand the whole thing over to your insurance company. I hope you informed them of the accident at the time?

Send the letter back to the solicitor with your insurance details and a request that no further contact be directed towards yourself, ring you insurance company and give them all the details. This guy sounds like he is going to cry whiplash.

Dont send the letter back to the solicitor. Get in touch with your insurance co and give them the letter to deal with.

First off well done for bein so honest Cantgetright. But Jesus now
it looks like your getting personel jury claim against your insurance.
Pretty nasty. Can't win even when you do the right thing.
The people who own the car, sound like a nice upstanding members
of the community, if it does go down the legal route, hope you win
and show the up for what they are.

Unlucky for what sounds like a small bump.

Whip lash is pretty nasty too if you've ever had it.

since my last post i have recieved an other solicitor letter from the passenger of the the car i hit. At the time of the accident she was the one calling the shots. They where foreign nationals and i couldnt tell exactly what she was saying but she was pointing and shouting at the driver and at no point did either look in any pain or discomfort

Look, I really wouldn't worry about any of this. You've paid your ins co to look after you in cases like this, i'd just leave it to them and get on with your life.:)

Don't want to defend the guy you hit or take from your experience but what exactly was "a slight bump".
The reason I ask is I was hit from behind some years ago,the car that hit me had some damage to his car but mine had a slight crack. It cost a couple of grands worth of damage, but I did suffer from discomfort after a couple of days, now didn't go sueing or anything but what you may consider slight may have been a savere bump to them. Or on the other hand they could be taking you for a ride.

I would send both letters to your insurance company, give them you side and let them sort it out, after all thats what you pay insurance for.

    bloody forigners eh?
I thought whip lash was supposed to be non compensated injury?
Its unlucky about the small tap alright.. but a small crack in the bumper would require a replacement and maybe a blend into the side panels and the bootlid.
Its a pitty they're claiming personal injury. I hope you have NCB protection?
    who is your insurance too?
quinn are the easiest to get money out of for personal injury, up to 30k without going to court. thats why i wouldn't get insurance with them.

    unlucky to OP.

When in a recession comp culture kicks in.

Just hand it over to your insurance company and writing down everything you remember of the accident

Whiplash does set in few days or even a week or two afterwards. I didn't realise I had it till a week later and by the 2nd week it was bad enough.

That said I don't dispute that a lot of people claim whiplash when they are fine. So I'd just as other said put it all in a letter and let the insurance company handle it. I'd make the point about it being a small bump and no one being in distress at the scene. After that, nothing you can do. I don't think. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

Don't let it eat you up. It happened, just move on.

your car could not damage another car with out your car getting damaged in process, even if its a barely visible stratch ,,get it repaired...go down same road they are going down, doesnt matter whos wrong,if i slam on my brakes in middle of motorway it does not give you right to hit me coz i,m in wrong,, i'd still be able to claim for my damage,,

Unfortunately you will be held liable.

Its nigh impossible to defend a rear end collision even if it is a low speed impact. The courts seldom throw out rear end collisions unless there is significant evidence to justify a dismissal.

The whiplash "Scam" is a irish creation and has been for the past 30 odd years. We perfected and exported this form of compensation.
