Im reading the news and it says that the national roads authority are conserving supplies of salt this weekend so that they can use it nest week and wont have to close any main roads:eek:, i mean is this a possibilty if they run out of grit, surely this cant be right i mean how will supermarkets and other essentials get supplied, surely they cnt close main roads can they folks?

Seems to be the best course of action to wait it out until Monday when it's really needed for people commuting to work.

Also the worst of the weather is yet to come, there's no point gritting this weekend when supplies are low and then it'll be useless come Monday when more gritting will be needed.

of course they can close roads, just like they did when they flooded.

Supermarkets will re route trucks or wait a few days, no big deal. If it gets really bad they can move between the major centres by rail

Well if the forecast is anything to go by we are going to need it next week to keep the main roads open for emergency vehicles and other vital servies. I think it's a given the country is going to grind to a halt Sunday/Monday.

Not gonna happen, the entire of CIE will be out on strike if rail freight is even merely suggested.

Unless they use converted pax trains, I don't think CIE has many goods trains left. They are a dying breed, FFS you done even have a guards van on the 22000 series

there are still container wagons, as run from Ballina recently.

you can just make out the freight wagon behind this here

They have to preserve salt so they will have to close roads.

This cold snap is forecasted to last until March by some

Any news on when the new post-apocalyptic society will begin to take shape?

I have a few neighbours I've always wanted to murder.
