If you scroll down this page you can see pictures of a WW1 memorial recently unveiled in Killure cemetery.
I'm interested in the Thomas Ballinger who was in the American forces, according to this memorial. From some correspondence I've had, he's supposed to be the son of Thomas Ballinger and Mary Gaughwin of Fohanagh, born 1874.
My own research into this person indicates he came to the UK in the early 1900's, married and died there in 1943!
I know maybe this should be in the genealogy subforum but I thought maybe you guys are more knowledgeable about how to get more info. Who decides the names to put on the memorial, what kind of info they have and how can I get in touch etc.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I'd start by finding out who made the memorial stone, they in turn should be able to tell you who commissioned it,i.e the local council, private, historical group and so on,from there you should be able to track down who supplied the info on the soldiers who lived or were born in that area,I'm sure Thomas Ballinger has reason to be on there.
