Asked to prove the addition rule from first priciples?

    In 2002 they were asked to prove the addition rule from first principles but are book concise maths only shows u how to prove it using logs.in the marking scheme it says no first principles is worthless and merits no marks.If you write down the log proof in the exam do you get full or no marks?
