    Twice today I was passed over by a flock of 12/16 birds that looked like swans but these had a black wing tip and a black tail. I am close to a lake which is not frozen.I don't generally see that number fly over

    Never saw swans with black wing & tail tips before, perhaps they were either Barnacle or Canada (photo) Geese.

    Snow Geese have black wing tips but they are rare individual visitors here so I doubt that;s what they were.
