Temperature needle stuck in high

    the temperature needle for the engine on my ford fiesta is stuck in high,even when the engine is turned on or turned off, the car drives normally,
    any ideas

    Check coolant level and under the oil cap. If it's like a jar of helmans under there could be headgasket

    If the needle shoots to high as soon as you turn on the ign then its probably a short in the wire going to the temp sender unit, a faulty sender unit or a faulty guage, in that order I'd say.

    The temperature sender failed on mine (gauge was stuck on cold), was about €20 for a new one but was a bollocks to fit (it's behind the engine in the 1.3).

    normally i would suspect the sensor, but since it stays high with the engine & I presume ignition switch off could be the gauge or a short,

    disconnect the wire from the sensor and see if it falls back, if so it's most likely the sensor itself if still staying high you will have to search further
