    Hi all

I said I'd try here first, I picked up this Camera Christmas Eve and was convinced by Camera Salesman that this was robust and one of the best for my group on the market. I like taking photos but im not a phtobuff, I just wanted a top of range compact camera.. I had a cannon before and it gave lens errors, basically this has a 12X lens that moves out on startup.. just there today its not moving and this 'Lens error, restart camera' comes up preceeded with a few beeps.. this is incredibly dissapointing.. has anyone come across this before?

Please advise... Im contacting Camera shop tomorrow anyway but id lke to here if this is a regular issue?

Also I hope this is the right forum if not I apoligse

That error usually shows if the lens has recieved a knock of some sort. Did it get dropped? That model is an excellent camera and very well built. Bring it into the shop where you bought it. If it hasn't been dropped, then you will be covered under warranty. Good luck, hope it gets sorted for you.

These come back into the shop regularly where I work and it's always the same thing, the lens has been out (camera on) and has gotten knocked from one direction and now won't function.

If there's even a scratch near the lens, you may as well write it off, the manufacturer will just deem is accidental damage which isn't covered under warranty.

Well this one's got no knock.. no scratch's to be honest I had it left on the table, down loading pics, knocked it off and then next time this error happened, its expensive and I used to be in electronics manufactur bussiness. theyd want to have a case cause i'll follow them for it.. really annoyed now:mad:

Thanks though for the feed back

No worries, Canon are usually decent folk to deal with, when you're bringing it in just insist that it hasn't been knocked and that you want to have it examined. Most stores these days will give you some kind of document stating that you might be liable for the cost of returning the camera should they find it to be accidentally damaged, it's usually about €50-€60 so once you're happy noone in the house had an accident with it, it won't matter.

How much did you pay for the camera? If you've accidental damage cover on your contents on your home insurance policy, and a low excess, it might be easier to just claim on the insurance.

Just when i was about to buy this camera.. Any feedback on the matter yet?

So feed back is that there looks like the Camera got a 'knock'. I had to bite my tongue when I heard this and to be honest the camera shop guy is a top fella and a camera specialist, not one of those spotty part timers in a multinational chain. So it must have received a blow somewhere.. I have no idea where and I would mind we were really taking care of it.. So its being sent back to Cannon to investigate and they'll fix under guarantee if they feel its the cameras issue if they feel it was damaged however they'll ask for payment.

I have no idea of how to post a pic up here but I have a picture,

anyway dissapointed but 'll await and see the feedback from Cannon, yer man reckons if payment is required its typically €150 -€200..

Hold on I think I can attach Picture, really unusual... It could have also been caused anywhere in the manufacturing process..

Don't however let it put you off them, it is a good camera, I got some excellent pictures, I didnt want an SLR as I felt im not into cameras and Photograhy enough to warent one, also I wanted a camera that I could slip into a backpack bring up a mountain easy when climbing or hill walking..

I can't believe it got a knock.. anyway..:(

    :(

Sorry to hear. You wouldn't believe the amount of cameras we've had back since Christmas which have had the same thing happen, especially with women leaving them in their handbags and on with the lens out.

Yea, I wish I could put my finger on it but we really were watching this one, suprising whats annoying is that we were watching it and it stil happened, Im not fully convinced however the data looks to point to it..

I just wanted to update you all with regards to this, Cannon took back the camera, decided to fix it under Guarantee (witch was great of them) then hadn't the part so have left me a new Camera.

I applaud their customer service, okay i'm totally subjective here and it was a positive result but fair play Cannon!

Also the shop, I don't know if im aloud to mention them or not, were very helpfull..
Nice to see good customer service still exists!
