    Hi guys,

Just wrote a script for a short film and I've got actors lined up etc but I need a decent camera. Just wondering where is the best place to rent a camera? Lower rates the better as I'm a bit low on cash at the moment. Thanks in advance.

    Hi CardHolder,

Here's a list of a few places which do Camera Rental. I'm not sure exactly what type of camera you are looking for, but most of these companies will have a range and hopefully something that will suit the quality/budget equation that you have to deal with.

Filmbase, Curved Street in Temple Bar
    www.filmbase.ie
They are good for people starting out, and one of the big advantages is that if you join and rent equipment as a member it is covered under their insurance policy. Well worth talking to for advice as well.

    The Production Depot, Bray
    http://www.production-depot.com/
They have a much wider range of cameras than Filmbase, but it may be more difficult to rent from them if you don't have a decent budget.

    DigiRent, Morehampton Road
    01 6681699
They have a good range of digital cameras and basic accessories.

    Vast Valley, Carrickmines
    http://www.vastvalley.com/
Again very helpful, with a good selection of cameras. Been known to do good deals for people starting out too.

There are many many other places to go to, but the above should get you started. In general I've found its usually best to explain that you are working on a low budget and let people know how much you've got available for camera rental. That way they can suggest something in your price range, or agree a deal with you as best they can.

    Good luck with it!

Jim Hawkins Camera Hire is where I always go

Jim is a gent to deal with and he always chucks in loads of extras included in the price (tripods, extra batteries etc) and he is the best value I have found by a long way.

I'd warmly recommend film equipment hire - I found them great value and exceptionally helpful.
They were also willing to arrange delivery and collection.

    Good luck with the film

If you want the best digital quality with minimum fuss, I would recommend talking to Vast Valley, they have a number of RED cameras and the expertise to help you to get the most out of them.
